I understand it is the media asking the questions. But you don't understand that it's all interconnected. If PEOPLE do not care about a topic, then the media are not going to waste time on it...period. If the PEOPLE cared or responded, the media would be all over it like a bum on a ham sandwich! The media already knows from Nielsen Ratings that when global climate stuff comes on TV, the channels are switched off. The media is only responding to what the PEOPLE desire...

You are correct about CA and I believe the topic will get some traction after we have chosen the Dem and Rep candidates.

Problem is people have so many issues slapping them in the face today that it is difficult for them to conceive of global climate changes--something they can't easily see and an issue they don't fully understand.

But for those of us who believe in the potential and possibly horrific affects from global climate changes, it's already too late to begin proactive actions and every day we do nothing, it can only get worse...

To be fair the details can be pretty technical and there isn't a single solution, it's going to have to be a variety of them.

Yeah but when they talk about Kyoto you hardly hear any real level of details about it or alternatives. You'll get maybe 10 seconds of cap and trade and then you'll hear a couple of the controversies surrounding the issue and then they move on. It's the media's fault because they want to present things that are more popuplar (more sexy) and it's everyone's fault that many of those things are trivial in nature.

However I expect you'll get more questions in the general election. There really isn't much of a difference between the positions of the Democratic candidates. McCain is probably the only Republican with any sort of serious plan to combat climate change. Hopefully there will be more questions. Maybe the public has to start asking them if the press won't.
Fair enough........

I choose to blame the media in this instance if for no other reason than #'s being so overwhelming......I am not a conspiracy theorist but to me those numbers... The disparity between them speaks volumes. Volumes far beyond voter/public apathy.........

You do make a good point, and maybe that disparity is being fed by a lot more than just voter/public apathy:

No Questions On Global Warming Asked At CNN’s Coal Industry-Sponsored Presidential Debates

When one of the leading contributors to global warming is sponsoring presidential debates we probably shouldn’t be surprised that candidates aren’t being asked questions about it. It's not difficult to imagine CNN avoiding the issue for the obvious reason.

The 'truth' of global warming is irrelevant. The path is the same, regardless. It is simply a matter of how we get there.

It's why the media (especially FOX News) gives a fair bit of air time to the so called global warming skeptics, rather than addressing the science it becomes a spitting contest instead which sadly enough is often better for ratings.
Am I the only one who watched the history channel show on the other day that gave the top 7 ways humans were likely to cease to exist? It was pretty interesting really...

I saw it advertised but I never watched. The astroid thing will eventually happen, how well we will be prepared for it is another matter. Of course the Xtian alliance is pushing for nuclear war, might as well get it over with quickly.

I think asteroid was 4 and nuclear war was 3....Climate change was number 1.

I can't remember the order.

Climate change could dramatically reduce the human population but it wouldn't wipe us out. It certainly won't be fun for a great number of people regardless.

In trying to quantify the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), back in 1961, Frank Drake, created a formula which has seven variables, and the 7th variable is fL. fL basically asks 'how long can we survive?'. It makes no difference if we commit suicide in the process or if global climate changes destroy most of us...point being that planets and civilizations do not go on forever.

We've only had radio technology for about 100 years, and radio technology is considered to be used by advanced civilizations. The question now, with thousands of nuclear warheads pointed at each other, as well as the things you watched on your TV program, can we make it another 100 years...500 years??

Hence the auto-signature at the bottom of my posts...
