Fellow Animal Lover here, and I hear you! It makes me shudder to think, what people do to helpless creatures, in the name of science or whatever the reason. It is NOT right!

Alot of people think, animals are just stupid and soul-less creatures, for us to do with, as we please. Sad fact, but true none the less. All the animals we have are rescues (dogs and horses) who have been abused/neglected. We are not rich, but we do what we can. I figure every little bit helps. It's heartbreaking, to have an abused animal, and to get them to trust you, but also very rewarding, when you bring them back to being healthy and happy. Although it takes a long time, and much patience.

I know exactly what you mean Gaia..it is so rewarding to see the trust and character return to an animal when treated with love and patience and consistency.
I rescued dogs and cats for years, now have my family of six dogs and one cat who've adopted me permanently..my home is their forever home

It sickens me enough that we have lab animals for research, slaughterhouses, factory farms etc. But whatever happened to humane treatment? Humane ending to an animal's life? What kind of sicko gets off on torture? Even if we did think animals were soul-less and we could do what we please with them, how many of us would immediately want to harm one?

These are not humans who did this to this poor monkey and many others the public isn't even aware of, I'm sure..the monsters who did this were mistakes of birth. They should never have been born.

I know. I feel I need to go rescue Ivan the gorilla from the zoo he went to. People just don't realize that having "wild" animals in captivity is nothing comparable to domesticated animals. Guess Ol Mna didn't watch the special about Hansa the baby Elephant who died of a mutated strain of the Elephant Herpies virus. Another baby Elephant died a few months ago at Dickerson Zoo where Hansa's mother was sent to get pregnant with Hansa. It's now suspected the virus came from the Elephants at Dickerson Zoo. Yeah, Old Man, captivity is just fine.

What gets me is where they are getting the primates to do medical research on? There must be breeding because many of these females have babies.

The USDA would have those records, or supposed to. Another worthless government agency. Freedom of Information Act. Where is Michael Moore when you need him.

We have 4 Dogs and two Horses. The Dogs were not so hard to bring around, but I've noticed, that Horses are very sensitive and perceptive Animals, and once abused, it is very difficult, to get them to trust again. The Mare we have, was shuffled from owner to owner, only used to have a foal, then passed on to the next one, as soon as the foal was weaned. Plus, she had been beaten into submission by many. When we got her, she was thisclose to snapping, had a dangerously wild, fearful look in her eyes. It took alot of work, to even be able to handle her at first. We had her for three years now, and she is a completely different Horse, than when we got her.But she still shy's away from Hands coming at her too fast. And she is SO sweet! She comes up behind me, and lays her big head on my shoulder, and sighs ever so softly, like saying: thank you for not being mean to me.

Attilla was a Yearling when we got him, so all it took was a blue plastic bucket with Oats in it, and Apple flavored Horsie Treats, to bring him around. Whereas the Mare was 6 yrs old when we got her.

And my Dogs (2 longhaired mini dachshunds, 1 english setter, and a rottweiler) are now hopelessly spoiled Fur Babies. And I love them all so much! I wish I could help all Animals in bad situations and living conditions. But I don't have the financial resources to do that, so I am actively involved in trying to get people to be responsible Pet owners. And a good start is always getting the pets they get, spayed and neutered.

And to the case of the poor monkey, and the cruelty visited upon it, the sad fact is, there are some real human monsters out there, who actually enjoy being cruel.

I admire you so much, G-mom, for what you do! I can imagine how emotionally draining it can become, to witness so much suffering. And not be able to do very much about it.

Thank you.
It's hard. I'm trying to do what I can. Hoping something will come of the stuff I'm trying to do. Keep fingers crossed.
