Let's say people started growing corn (or whatever it is), in their backyards. A business could be created allowing the people to sell their crops for the purpose of turning the crops into ethanol.

The people make money. The business makes money. Space is used more efficiently.

I know what you're saying. Once individuals with small-time home-kits start getting off the grid kinda situation? You should check-out 'Invention Nation' (I think it's called) on Discovery Science channel, where normal folks are doing remarkable things. Once again proving all that money that exxon and the like are paying for 'green' technology is just hush money to parameterize the findings. This biofuel technology will only get cleaner and easier with more funding and already can include any number of plat materials for fuels.
