I have tossed out many over the last couple years as they are not very hardy in some circumstances.

I got mine at SETNET (setnetpro now, I guess)

SETNET

There's a three-phase model but it's almost $500.

QUOTE=BleedingPinky;173475 That is exactly the reason for not moving a finger. If anyone wants to go crazy, so be it. BTW, do you have them installed?

There are lots of things you can do before you consider PV. Increase the insulation in your home, use double-pane windows or place some insulation barrier over them, make sure the house is tight, use plants/trees to block direct sunshine from the exterior of the house, move the thermostat 2-4 degrees from normal use, use smart digital thermostats, check out higher efficiency heating/cooling systems, etc.

We have spoken with a PV company, they have looked at our situation, they are currently providing a formal quotation, then we will act accordingly.

I'll stick to my incandescents on a dimming system, thank you.
The Weather Channel did a ditty on them, and they made it sound like the contamination wasn't that concentrated. They suggested sealing the used throw away bulb in a Ziploc bag before disposal.

You're still trading a slight ecological concern for a major eco disaster. No thanks.

You...and me...and tens of millions others in the world have been using fluorescent light bulbs for our entire lifetimes. And, ALL OF THEM contain mercury. The only difference between those tube fluorescent lights and the CFL's is the CFL's are compact in size.

So if you believe CFL's are such a huge problem and leading to a 'major eco disaster', why didn't you care about all those tube fluorescents? They've been around for over 100 years and still no eco disaster??

I'll bet nearly every one of those tube fluorescent lights have been broken in their disposal process. Yet I'll gamble that CFL's are not broken nearly as often. Further, CFL's last 6 to 15 times longer than incandescents so we're not disposing 10 bulbs per year per household.

From my perspective, the use of CFL's are a great option since they last much longer and they save energy. Can they be improved and is mercury an issue to me--absolutely. But CFL's are no worse than other fluorescent lighting we've been exposed to and if we're careful with disposal, the mercury issue can be minimized much more than we have in the past one hundred years...

I don't have, will not have and have refused to have flourescent lighting because I've never believed they were healthy.
They were primarily used for offices and like commercial structures until they brought them into homes. Even then, they weren't the primary lighting. Now someone wants to make them the mainstay of our lighting choice. I find this unacceptable.
Granted I just learned they had more mercury than I thought originally, it's just one more reason not to use them.
Normally I wouldn't give a shit except incandescents are dissappearing off of the shelves (and not by consumers but by the merchants themselves), and I'm left with no real choice. Believing that saving the atmosphere at the cost of our ground water is insane. It's no real solution.
Give me to choice to choose between energy saving lighting and proper lighting. Let me decide how I want to save energy. Lighting isn't even that big an energy consumer compared to other systems in the house (mechanical, entertainment, etc)
