Bill Maher talking about bees disappearing

I've heard about bees disappearing for a while now so I found Bill Maher's commentary on disappearing bees interesting -

I think there was another thread about this a couple months ago.......???

Anyway I have been hearing about it for years.... Over the last year or so it has just collapsed......

I got a friend I kayak w/ that has been wanting to get into it as he thinks it is a gold mind........ Now like 80% of the bees are just gone.. They fly away & know one knows what is happening w/ them......... Before there was the mite but the commercials could deal w/ that w/ a treatment.....

I have heard several theories one that made the most sense was that it is not one but a combination of all the issues they face. From pesticide to one crop feedings........... There is about 30 isses that are sucept or possibly all playing a part.......

I have a big valley oak in my back yard & have had a huge hive in it for @ least 10 or the last 12 years....... I notice some a few weeks ago but I just went out & looked & there is none.........

I got looks of lemons & on the blossoms I see some bees but more bumble bees than usual............

Tons of wild honeybees, as well as others around here. I think the problem is with the huge, commercial hives.

Not much different than warehousing any animals...disease runs rampant, and I suspect the same applies here.

They have not been able to narrow it down to just one or two "diseases".........

most hives aren't huge conglomorants.
You got lots of independant beekeepers with a few hundred hives, at most.

another problem is the lack of diversity of the flowers they feed on.
I think they pretty much ruled out mites as the cause.

Yep........... IMO the one crop feeding has to be a part..... Lots of the things liek the "treatment" they were getting is certainly suspect as well as the abundance of pesticides........... Hell they must get exposed to almost every single one of them........

I've been reading and blogging about this for over a year now.

Colony Collapse Disorder. It's important to realize this also just happens naturally, so some of the ' and here ' inidividual cases are probably naturally occuring. The vast majority of CCD cases are commercial pollinators. These colonies are transported to areas that need bees to polinate, but don't have enough local natural bees.

This tends to make me believe that it's pesticide driven. Fruit and nut tree industries heavily use pesticides. Another hint that it's a pesticide and not parasitic/disease is that those insects that normally move into abandoned hives do not move into CCD hives until a very long time, if at all.

I watched a show on TV about an area in China that has lost all it's bees to pesticides. They HAND POLINATE now. This is NOT AN OPTION for the U.S., as it's slow, unreliable, and massively hard work.
