They did it to @ least two families in Sacramento that I know of recently. One knuckled under quick & the other fought it for a while.......

The fighters had the O' white picket fence around the yard w/ roses & all that... They had several veggies growing (where grass once grew) there for over two years............ Then one of their neighbors turned them in & the battle began........ I don't recall exactly how long it went on but in the end they gave up........

This concept of the front lawn/yard began (from what I heard) in new York back in the 50's w/ one builder & it became the norm for track homes & of course everyone else had to do the exact same concept.....

There have been some changes recently in my area back to a time that predated that but it is the exception rather than the rule.. Americans pride ourselves on our individualist nature. But that illusion lives on only in our minds..........

Now go mow the lawn & pull those weeds before the neighbors start bitching..............lol

My 'lawn' is now a combination of ground cover, weeds and grass. I haven't had time to redo the full ground cover experiment--I think to do it right I would have to do it myself. That time imput just isn't an option.
I use to go around my house w/ diazanon & other chemicals...... no longer..... I think I may have even shorten the lives of some pet rabbits using that crap.......

Now I only use soap to kill the ants & a light spray of bleach (none this season) on my peach tree to prevent peach leave curl which is prevalent in this area........ Plus the tree is not in a good location..

Using the diazanon I created a barrier keeping ants not only out but also in........... Those under the cement slab could not get out... Each time I did it I invited an immediate retaliation by the ants. Now I just go around the house w/ soapy water & spray using one of those lawn garden sprayers you put on the end of the hose.

Not only does it kill them instantly but stays around for a while as well...... In the nests @ posts & cracks in goes right down in & destroys it (kills them bugs dead)... I have not sprayed in over two years & all my neighbors get attacked a couple times a year as the rain & cold start.......

Rumor is the place was built on a giant ant hill.............lol

Thanks for the tip! Any kind of soap, like my kitchen anti-bacterial dishsoap?
I imagine hubby might cock a suspicious eye when my insecticide bottle starts seeming bottomless...but we'll worry about that point when we get there. It's gotta be at least six months from now. Then it'll be winter again.

Yes...spray bleach. I use that intead of Ant Killer because of the dogs. Works well ....except for the occasional time a dark clothing item touches the bleach.

That is what I use......... I make it kinda strong but if you put on plants make it weaker...........

Once it touches them they die w/in a couple seconds. If it is poured down into a nest...... None will come up..........

I use bleach on the tree & dish soap on the ants.....

I have used bleach also on those brown spots on the lawn...... It is caused by a fungus that grows on the lawn.... Makes it look like the spot is not getting enough water......... It is actually called brown spot.. Bleach works but it is touchy getting it strong enough to kill the fungus but not strong enough to kill the grass..........

Also it is great on the shower.... SPray bottle full strength to get rid of mold/mildew.........

My wife thought I was in there scrubbing for hours to get it like that... I finally confessed after a couple years.......... lol
