We are playing a VERY dangerous game in Pakistan right now. I am leery to make predictions, but I believe that we will continue to support Musharraf as long as he is able to keep the radical elements "at bay." There is a vested interest here, the major one being the security of Afghanistan and the keeping the Taliban out.

It is sad that she had to die in such a manner, perhaps her death will rally people enough to reclaim their country. Either way, RIP.

yea, I regret that in that post it seemed like I was saying that our support killed her. I actually don't believe that. I just think the support of the west made her an even bigger target.

here is another thread on the matter

"Bhutto seriously injured by suicide bomb"

Musharraf got what he wanted. Not only does he have an excuse to crack down on the country all the harder, but he now has no effective opposition in any elections he no longer feels he should postpone.

She was shot before the assassin blew himself up. That right there deviated from the usual suicide bombing, in that he had a very specific target that he was to verify as dead before killing himself.

Now they're saying when Bhutto jerked her head, she hit her head against the vehicle, on a lever and that's what killed her.http://www.cnn.com/

Al Quaeda is usually very public about taking credit for anything they do.

The last bomb that was exploded at one of her rallies, went without anyone taking credit.

So, now they supposedly have an intercept, where A Q is congratulating an ally for carrying out this latest murder.

How expedient that they have Al Quaeda to blame. I think Heretic is correct. Recently, Bhutto decided that sharing power w/Musharraf would not work, as previously suggested.

Now, her history as a leader is suspect, but this is truly a sad day...As sad as the day Bush murdered Saddam Hussein.

What the hell have we started?

First of all, Saddam Hussein's execution did not make for a sad day! Especially not in Iraq where he killed and brutalized and repressed uncounted millions. He was an evil, horrible human being. Don't ever think any different of him. I saw firsthand what he did. Second, "we" as in "The United States" didn't start anything. Strife has been the way of life in the middle east long before we were even a country. The only time there was ever any peace is when they were under somone's bootheel. I believe Churchill said "The arabs are either at your feet or at your throat". Seems to be the case for most of recorded history.
