A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide by Samantha Power has a preview
![]() The most compelling book yet RE genocide I've read yet (and that's saying something).

...But it's educational: goes into the Armenian & Jewish Holocausts, the Khmer Rouge, the Kurdish genocide, Bosnia, Rwanda (not reading that chapter, I've read enough about Rwanda, never want to read another book about that again), Srebrenica (Yugoslavia), and Kosovo. There's a lot I didn't know. You'll recognize some of the arguments gov't's set up to avoid military intervention. Some may be new. There was a Canadian general in Bosnia/Kosovo (etc) who was real press happy back in the 90s: after listening to him, I remember thinking the violence over there was historically inevitable and culturally endemic, and that we should get out. It didn't occur to me to question his integrity (just looked him up -- his name was Lewis MacKenzie). I'll be a lot more critical about what I read and hear from now on... and I thought I already was. Read that book, Chris. PS: a link you should bookmark for when you do - http://eastethnia.blogspot.com/2008/...o-general.html I don't usually go for blogs, but it either links or quotes legit media sources. Don't believe me. See what you think after you're done the book.
