It appears that two American soldiers killed themselves over Christmas.

How very, very sad.

It is all such a waste. I can see the justification for Afghanistan, but not the wholesale sellout of our troops there, to go galivanting around Iraq for oil. a hundred years from now, this will be the time of greatest danger to our republic. That is if our republic still standfs a hundred years from now.

On a happier note:

Happy New Year Teri!!

On the NPR news this morning they were saying this was the deadliest year for Americans since this War began, 899. I find it odd that this "official" number is just under 900; so they kept the number minus a few to keep alarms down around the country or what? This has been going on officially for nearly five years, half the time as Vietnam.

In a decade in Vietnam we lost about 58,200 soldiers and another 2,200 POW/MIA. Those numbers killed were similar to WWII, however there were 78,000 POW/MIA; a number which dropped by 300% or more after the Vietnam War. We have a grand total of nine.

The wounded soldier number is different though. In Vietnam there were over 303,000 wounded compared to 75,000 from WWII. Currently we have going on 30,000 wounded. So the wounded in this War compares with the much lower amount in WWII.

The only comparison between Vietnam and Iraq that holds true is that it is a "War" that cannot be won without annihilating the enemy in such a fashion as Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

Not to argue but where the heck did you come up with those numbers there for WWII? Granted my numbers are from memory so they could be off a bit but that far off is just ridiculous.

I know my POW/MIA numbers from WWII are correct as for those wounded and killed I'll have to be honest and go and double check.

I admit I went Wiki, but their information on things like this is usually pretty accurate. The POW and MIA #s are from aiipowmia.com
