QUOTE=BillCosby;146683] What has Pastor Jeremiah Wright said that offened you? Why?
IMO this minister is entitled to his freedom of speech without fear of reprisal. I don't care what he said and for how many years he spewed his diatribe--this is his choice.

But it is unconscionable and inexcusable that Obama, after hearing the minister's controversial and hateful and divisive remarks the second or third time, that Obama did not immediately distance himself from this. I don't care if Obama is black, white, green or purple, as a candidate for the president of the USA, I demand better judgement.

And IMO, Obama's speech that so many feel is so great, was nothing more than fuel on the fire, creating more divisiveness, by further pointing out things like; father is Kenyan, mother is American, grandmother is white, etc. If Obama believed in creating unity, then he should have spoken about all these people in his life as human beings...period. Forget the color of the skin, or the religion, or the gender, etc...at the beginning and the end of the day we are all human beings.

It's disgusting that we simply cannot figure out how to get along with one another...

If so I guess we should not send "peacekeepers" to Darfur to stop the genocide. We wouldn't want anybody to declare war on us.

You can't have one standard, because people will twist whatever reason they find to suit their political agenda.
I don't want to get off the topic already....... What you or I think is not the issue...... It is unfortunate that he has declared it but it is not like there are not millions of "them" that agree w/ him.......

Contrary to popular belief the usa does not always get to pick the reasons.......

...this coming from Falwell's pulpit.

And when it came to saying God was damning America he and Pat Robertson sided with the 9/11 hijackers by saying the terrorist's actions served America right and were God's punishment.

As Frank Schaeffer puts it:

Quote:
Episcopal bishop of New York Paul Moore, Jr. raged against America was "rooting for McCain's torturers" while McCain was a prisoner of war. How can McCain be a member of that denomination and be a real American, let alone commander in chief?

Still not what you're looking for, but consider the irony here...

At this point, it seems that this man might just be the very reason that yet another black man won't get the consideration in this election.

See, I think the problem is that while Obama is running on a theme of unity, and working together toward a common goal, Wright's words are divisive.

Your point is well taken about specifics. I guess the problem is that Obama's supposed "mentor" is seemingly contradicting Obama's message.

Obama is being asked to clarify his position.

yea............. THnX

That is a powerful statement..... One I hope is about to be proven wrong........... That a black man can be elected president of this country.......

I agree w/ a lot of what he says...... I don't agree w/ everything he says......... Or anyone for that matter....... Hell I don't even agree w/ many of the views & understandings I had 6 months or a year ago.....

Hopefully he, like the rest of us can grow & learn..... Admit our mistakes, errors & learn from them.........

Perhaps politically speaking he could have chosen a pastor & friend that would poll better & not say things that piss some ppl off. But then that is what good pastors due IMO......

THis is getting big play & thus far seems to be the only real knock he has had to take..........

I would take this guy over john mcbush's hagee any day..........

What does the Reverend Wright have to do with Obama other than being his Pastor?
