Politics is a funny animal...

Sometimes, it isn't the actual text, so much as the "impression" one gets from a situation.

When Kerry was discussing the outsourcing of jobs 4 years ago, I found it interesting that he wouldn't mention the unions that drive many jobs overseas.

Why? Because he needed the union vote. So...he couldn't be truthfull.

It seems anything that is controversial is considered bad politics, far more than the actual reason that a topic is controversial.

I suppose I get the same general feeling from the Revs' aids rant, that I do from those that claim Bushco planned 9/11. I think he's got a screw loose.

The other stuff is part righteous indignation, part ignorance.

America's chickens are coming home to roost."
We didn't deserve anything. However I won't deny that our belligerent foreign policy has a direct causal relationship to everything that has happen to us since the Beirut barracks bombing. While our bombs have killed thousands our sanctions have killed millions.

Wright is saying, according to all the pundits, that we deserved 9/11. I don't think we did, but as I said actions we took for the last two decades sure gave millions of people the reason, in their minds, to carry out attacks against us.

According to you, or according to the truth? Many would argue our support of Israel validates 9/11 as something like a retaliation. You attack a country and then you think it is not ok for them to attack you? America is perfect virtue in every way, just like Nazi Germany was?

According to every TV pundit attacking Obama saying that his pastor stated we "deserved" 9/11. He never said such a thing, however the OP question was "What has Pastor Wright said that I find offensive". I find the general statement offensive IF I believe he meant we "deserved" 9/11. Wright has not come out and refuted this perversion of his sermon, and so I am left to think that is what he meant.

His other statements I agree with in principal if you can find his message hidden in his rhetoric.

If we attacked another sovereign country without just cause then of course not.

THnX..... From what I have read I agree w/ his views of the war & the american gov role in the world..........

Deserve......... IMO- I think that is a difficult pill to swallow........ Not that the usa did not make moves that brought this about but do to the attack being against innocent ppl & not the gov or corp interests...

In their minds........ I prefer to have one standard. Not one for us & another for them... (whom ever "them" may be @ the time)......

IMO saying that "in their minds" would seem to add "justification or over look" the appalling actions of this country.........

That we would not always be nice. Good........... or fair is so far beyond the realm of possibilities for many in this country that to fathom some of the things he & many others have said is impossible......

Too many 'Americans' are like Nazi's. If you don't say Germany is perfect in every way, they send you to the concentration camps (even if you're not a Jew).

But I don't agree that just because we were in Saudi Arabia at the invitation of the Saudi government during Desert Shield/Storm that this justifies bin Laden fatwa in 1996. In bin Laden's mind he used this as a reason to declare war with the West. Is the presence of American forces on foreign lands enough of a reason to declare war?

If so I guess we should not send "peacekeepers" to Darfur to stop the genocide. We wouldn't want anybody to declare war on us.

You can't have one standard, because people will twist whatever reason they find to suit their political agenda.
