It's one of the most amazing displays of journalistic incompetence and malpractice in recent memory.

The US news media failed to draw the obvious connection between the bizarre federal law enforcement investigation and leak campaign about the private life of New York Governor Spitzer and Spitzer's all out attack on the Bush administration for its collusion with predatory lenders.

While the international credit system grinds to a halt because of a superabundance of bad mortgage loans made in the US, the news media failed to cover the details of Spitzer's public charges against the White House.

Yet when salacious details were leaked about alleged details of Spitzer's private life, they took that information and made it the front page news for days.

To the 9/11 fiasco, the Iraq War, the travesty of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, and the shredding of the US Constitution, we can now add a deliberate and reckless undermining of the credit and banking system of the US to its list of "accomplishments."

I agree with you. The reason the feds were investigating him in the first place was suspect and it was mentioned by a few people on msnbc - but no more coverage regarding it.

Predatory lending is a display of journalistic incompetence? Only in the sense that we lack a vibrant media with lots of educated and specialized journalists. If the people who signed the fucking loans didn't know what the hell they were doing, a journalist is now supposed to walk the beat, snoop around for information, keep their ears to the ground and their noses to the grindstone AND be above-averagely educated in matters financial?

Yes, I KNOW that mainstream media is not walking the beat, snooping around for information, keeping their ears to the ground and their noses to the grindstone. Yes, I KNOW that, forget above-averagely educated, mainstream media is either playing dumb or really IS dumb.

But the ineptitude and/or complicity is not case-specific to predatory lending.


More like, the news media is failing to draw the obvious connection between federal wiretapping and selective, capricious, agenda-driven prosecution/enforcement of American Law.


The news media, Financial Big Boys, homeowners...there's no shortage of people who ignored warnings...just like shoppers have been ignoring their credit card balances with exorbitant interest rates. Trust Fund Brat Eliot Spitzer was not some lone crusader for ethics in lending.

In the credit crisis, there are some individuals...especially some corporate brass...who DO warrant scrutiny, investigation, prosecution and punishment in strictest accord with American Law.


Eliot Spitzer is SO not finished being front page news. Eliot Spitzer, poster brat for the Conscienceless Uber Rich, will be a big swinging dick in the thrust for legalization of prostitution.

It is news to no one that Bush Administration policies and philosophies underlie the credit crisis.
