Continuing cost of Iraq
Assuming that either Obama or Clinton is in the White House come January, and a plan is set in motion to exit our troops from Iraq as quickly as possible, we will still be using borrowed money until we're done.
This is one of those things I think we all know, but may not realize. If we look at the other plans: healthcare, infrastructure, global warming, etc. one must ask how we kickstart any of these things until Iraq is off our back. I fear that many people are going to expect too much too soon. If we can't get a handle on our finances, I'm not sure we can achieve much of what we want.

I fear that the $3 Trillion projected pricetag well be an optimistic and low figure one. Regardless, we will be in it for the next century at a minumum. Look how long we've been in Germany and they liked us.

there are so many economic woes that will affect us.
Shrinking dollar, falling housing prices, inflation ( coming back big time). low GDP growth, rising costs of entitlement programs, bloated military budget, oil prices and of course Iraq. a perfect shit storm.

FACT is that even if we elect a president that wants to get us out, and does get us out, it's not going to happen overnight. I'm really concerned with what the average "inspired" voter believes is going to happen, and how quickly, or slowly, it will happen. Assuming our next president makes all the right decisions, how long will it be before we, the people, see the benefits of those decisions, and how many will be too impatient?

realistically, it will take years to get out of Iraq. If we are underway with withdrawal by the 2012 election it would be a good start.
and people will take anythjing if the price of gas et al can be brought under control. Only one way to do that.

I think its getting clearer that the goal all along was to establish a permanent military presence in Iraq, in order to have control over the resources.
Unfortunately, the forces that started this shit have had a very long time and spent alot of money to weave and neccessitate our presence into the future of Iraq. It wont be as simple as packing our shit and leaving. Ive heard that we dont even know where everybody is, who all is there, etc. How about all the corporations that are currently operating over there? After all, it would seem that if Iraq is "free", that the companies making money arent going to want to leave. As with many flawed decisions, there comes a time when you recognize a money pit for what it is, and focus your efforts elsewhere. Part of all of this is that we are spending millions on sortees from aircraft carriers that can precisely drop a smart bomb on an apartment building that has no power, no fresh water, no sanitation. A ridiculous waste of resources, and ignorant apathy toward healing Iraqi perception. I think the mindset for an exit strategy needs to be what this should have been ALL ALONG.....a humanitarian effort.

I think the modern dictionary should have a new accepted definition of "conspiracy". Conspiracy - See also Iraq War. See also Cheney's closed door energy policy. See also Halliburton, Blackwater USA, and the firing of US attorneys. See also Outing of a CIA agent working in nuclear proliferation in the middle east. I have to laugh at people who use the word "conspiracy" like it means "fantasy". If anyone doesnt think there are conspiracies going on today, that affect them at the pump tommorrow, well......I would encourage them to wake up.
