Perhaps that is true........ Perhaps not.............??? Over time I would think/hope that the gov would fall in line & become more responsible..... Such as upholding things such as the Geneva convention.....

Get on board w/ fighting climate change instead of progress & the bogey man......

Step back & not vetO & thwart the will of the rest of humanity..... The veto's alone are enough to make me sick..............

The usa & Israel supporting south africa against the world. Protecting us from the likes of Nelson Mandela & Daniel ortega........... If we like it or not................

True.......... It is going no where but it is still good to lay it out there IMO.......

Make the MF veto it................. @ least the rest of the world did the right thing..........

& everybody knows what that 180 to two means.......... @ least in most of the world............ Here in this country you would be lucky to even hear about it........

Definitely not. The function of the UN should not be to increase its power while diminishing the power of independent countries.

Why would any American give up the independence their forefathers fought so hard for?

If ppl around the worlds resources are needed in order to maintain our life styles.... SHould those ppl have a say in any of that or should they just STFU & get out in the fields & work...............???

Would the USA be able to function if there was no federal government?

What would happen if CA for example, decided to take over, by force, both AZ and NV?

Without a universal set of laws for all states and it's citizens, how would it be possible to maintain civility or even the slightest sense of unity?

In my opinion, it makes no difference if we're talking about the 50 US states or all the world's nations, in order to create any sense of harmony and the best possible situations for it's citizens, there must be a governing body...the federal government in the USA and the United Nations in the world.

The actions of the USA in the past seven years is that of a rogue nation, a bully nation, an arrogant and righteous nation, and in recorded history, all nations with this behavior have crashed and burned. One of the best actions that our next president can take is to become a fully participating member of the UN and bring all other nations into this governing body, with full recognition for all, and create a strong and meaningful world order.

it surprises me to see you say this. granted, the UN is useless but that is only because the US undermines each and every good thing the UN tries to do. but if all member countries really worked together, not to oppress people and bully them, but to set clear boundaries for conduct in war and the like, how could that possibly be a bad thing?

It isn't just the US. France, Britain - most wealthy member states have pretty much reduced the UN to a paper tiger that'd be laughable were the consequences not so tragic. The US leads the pack, but by no means are they alone: no one has the guts to stand up to them because... well, how easy is it, to be a middle power who can slough off all responsibility for non-action on the biggest guy on the block?

As for the US, what I've read so far traces that trend back to Somalia - completely bungled by the American contingent, glorified by a movie that conveniently glided over who really was responsible for that debacle.

Then there's Rwanda.

Sierra Leone and Liberia.

And of course, Sudan.

There's sure to be much more, but I'm not that fast a reader.

Western nations are notorious for bolting. Kill a few peace keepers, and voila, the wealthiest countries best able to combat absolute anarchy in these hellholes pull their forces out. If any UN forces remain, most of them are comprised of third world corps who have next to no weapons, supplies and, all too often, inadequate training.

Then there's old, outmoded rules of engagement preventing UN forces from effectively doing much of anything.

If anyone hasn't watched Ghosts of Rwanda & The Forgotten Genocide, these documentaries give a good sense for what the UN isn't doing... time & time again.
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
^ I organized a list just for you guys

I still hope for an overhaul of the UN because it's necessary; I can't imagine the sort of chaos that will escalate throughout the world if things go on as they are.
