patriotism vs nationalism- collaborators vs

Growing up we are taught that patriotism is a good thing..

We often here the term nationalism but not as a good thing..

Do they seem to mean essentially the same thing......???

Good Americans are of course patriotic.... & if others are Good XXXX's (According to them) then they are usually referred to as nationalist (according to us) especially if they are not viewed as a friendly country........

If you are an American & you love America you are a patriot. You are a Serbian & you love Serbia you are a nationalist....

If the occupied cooperated w/ the nazi's they were collaborators......

If occupied IraQi's cooperate w/ the USA they are X?X?X?X?X..????

Marshal Philippe Pétain of occupied Vichy France was a ?????????????

Nouri Kamel Mohammed Hassan al-Maliki of occupied IraQ is a ????????

Most people do not understand the difference between the two. Nationalism is essentially believing your country is superior to all others. Patriotism is simply loving your country, not having any notions of superiority or inferiority.

Who said it's not ugly when Americans do it? I argue with self styled 'patriots' over at Liveleak all the time. They are the most ill informed, racist, hate-filled excuses for Americans I've come across yet. They are prime examples of nationalists, and their comments are damned ugly.

And since I don't believe torture is an American value, or that we should nuke Iran yesterday, I am considered anti-American in their eyes. It's really bizzaro-world over there.

Just guessing, but I'd say 65-35, con vs lib. I just like to drop in there to throw bombs and check out the latest videos, since serious discussion is almost impossible. It's always fun to see how many negative rep points I can get .
