How do you define sheeppl....????

In another thread the subject of sheeppl was brought up. How do you define it......??? (this is in part some of my thoughts on it.......What about yours.........lol)

IMO if you simply vote the party line you are a sheeppl.........

If you mouth back almost verbatim the latest sound bite put out by your party.........

You refuse to debate, argue or even acknowledge mush less contemplate the existence of a valid opposing view.............

This can & does occur in either/any party or personal perspective, religion/lack there of etc... We are very prone/subject to propaganda & it is only through some effort we can manage not to fall victim to it...... Latching on to anything/everything that enforces or justifies our preconceived ideals, prejudices & biases comes naturally it seems.

Always keen to spot the propaganda/sheeppl speak in another while oblivious to their own efforts @ maintaining their own vulnerable positions, thoughts etc as well as the obvious contradictions.

Example that: Once upon a time a man went about condemning another for something he found offensive. He refused to accept any other understanding other than that which suited his needs. He went so far as to even refuse to read what the man said or the context in which it was said.

He despises many of the sources he quotes supporting himself & yet he nonetheless parrots them not allowing himself to wavier, & fully aware of his duplicity..........

You may be a sheeppl if you actually mean it when you admit, "The lord is my shepherd..."

If the sum of your total input in the political discourse is, "Four legs good, two legs bad."

The regurgitating of talking points, especially on the right, is epidemic. It seems to suffice for them as well. If you chant your slogan loud enough to drown out the opposition, you win!

Well, I said especially, not exclusively. But honestly, the right tends to find their talking points more adequate, as a complete idea.

See 'No, You Won't' in Election News for a perfect illustration.

Yes, it's written by a bleating sheep if ever there was one. While I'm sure you could find countless examples of "sheeple" in the histories of totalitarian states like the Soviet Bloc, China and North Korea, it's been disturbingly apparent on the Right here in the US today. This happens whenever a set of ideas or a political philosophy simply starts with a negative premise concerning an opposing point of view without making the case for the one being advocated. "Intelligent Design", while not universally advocated on the political right is one such idea that is a favorite of social conservatives. Its adherents try every red herring in the biology book to "disprove" evolution and put forth a case of a "designer" (read deity) simply based on their own perceptions of nature's complexity. This of course flies in the face of the proof of evolution in fossil and geographic evidence gathered over decades since "The Origin of Species" was published. If you're a believer in ID, you're probably a sheep.

Again... SOrry but I don't agree.... I see many, many on the left just as bad. Blind babbling of set out talking points...

Sheep vs sheep..................

I do believe that over the last 20 years or so the right has been far better @ framing the arguments & defining importance...... To suit themselves of course..................

It is the failure of the left.... SPecificly the democratic party, IMO, that has failed miserably to address this...... One only look @ how they allowed themselves to be stampeded & often times stumbling over themselves to appear out in front of the war wagons.......

Rather than pulling the right towards the center they have moved continuously towards the right, leaving the center far more to the right of most Americans on many issues including healthcare & the war......

On many issues & especially regarding foreign affairs their positions are almost indistinguishable & their mutual military industrial friends set their pace as the military marches off in support of American hegemony............

If I am wrong here please help me out & show me I am wrong on this..........

Sheeple are anyone who thoughtlessly follow any ideology based on what others tell them to believe.

For example... Anyone who's jaw didn't instantly hit the ground when after 9/11 president Bush told us to go shopping....is a sheeple.

Anyone who stood in line for hours (or days) to be the first to buy an iPhone....is a sheeple.

Anyone who thinks wearing a flag pin or putting a flag, or ribbon on your car makes you patriotic.....sheeple.

Anyone who still thinks John McCain is a maveric because Chris Mathews said so.....well, you get the picture.

Yoicks! It seemed like a lot simpler a question when I first answered it.

i don't think you're wrong, I don't think I am either, for that matter. I've given this post a lot of thought. And you've clearly given the subject a lot of thought.

There's a lot of things to consider if the question is this encompassing.Media and the psychology of advertising, the comforting nature of easy answers, the attention span of the American consumer, education, etc.

It's a subject that holds interest for me, but maybe we could break it down into smaller facets?
