car bombs vs air bomb- rich man vs poor man ~shrug~
A- Killing several innocent ppl w/ a car bomb is a terrorist act........
B- Killing several innocent ppl w/ an air bomb is not a terrorist act....... Either way innocent ppl are dead....... Is one moral & the other not? Are both equal morally?? Or is neither moral?? On the same token: Two men plan to commit murder: The rich man hires another while the poor man does it w/ his own bare hands.... Is one of these less guilty of murder? Thousands of Somalis took to the streets to protest against a United States air strike in Somalia last Thursday, which killed 12 people, including civilians. Protesters gathered on Sunday in Dhusamareb, about 250 miles north of the capital Mogadishu, where Thursday’s attack took place. Demonstrators shouted slogans against the Bush administration and said they feared further U.S. strikes on the town. Mu’alim Aden Hashi Ayro, thought to be one of the most senior Al-Qa’ida members in the country, was killed in the attack. He is said to have trained with Al-Qa’ida in Afghanistan in the 1990s. Ayro was a member of A-Shabab, an organization on the U.S.’s terrorist list. His mentor was Sheikh Hasan Dahir Aweys, a hard-line cleric who the U.S. says is linked to Al-Qa’ida. Washington believes Al-Qa'ida operatives are hiding out in the country and fears Somalia will turn into a terror hub that will engulf the whole of the Horn of Africa. Local Somali media outlets said access to Dhusamareb was difficult for the media, because it was under A-Shabab’s control. Residents in the Dhusamareb are venting their anger against the U.S. for the air bombing, Aweys Osman, a Mogadishu-based journalist with Reuters told The Media Line. “The residents there say the U.S. doesn’t have the right to execute such military action in their areas claiming there were no Islamists or A-Shabab fighters there,” Aweys said. “People also complained that some of their relatives were killed in that air raid, so people were shouting anti-American slogans such as ‘Down With America’ and ‘God is Great.’” He said the anti-American protests have mainly been confined to Dhusamareb. While there have also been demonstrations in Mogadishu, he said these were mostly focused against other issues, such as inflation. Mogadishu and other parts of the country were briefly under the control of Islamists in 2006, but the Somali army, with backing from Ethiopian troops, defeated the Islamists in January 2007. Islamists have since regrouped and are gaining strength and there have been almost daily attacks on civilians, security forces and peacekeepers. Violence has been rampant in Somalia since the beginning of last year, with a death toll of more than 6,500 people. Somalia has not had a stable government in 17 years. Talks between the Somali government and opposition groups are scheduled to take place in Djibouti later this month. The Alliance for the Re-Liberation of Somalia, a Somali opposition group, said it would continue to pursue peace talks with Somalia’s Ethiopian-backed government. But a spokesman for A-Shabab said his group would not engage in talks with the government and would attack Somali and Ethiopian targets, according to Garowe Online. He also threatened the group would target U.S. interests in the Horn of Africa. Copyright © 2008 The Media Line. All Rights Reserved.
