Did this truly happen?
I just watched a show a few nights ago about the USS Iowa and they talked about decommissioning the ship. San Francisco was one of the cities that was considered as a receving port to dock the ship. It was estimated to bring into the city 1.5 to 2 million dollars in tourist revenue and provide some additional employment. The narrator stated that the city commission voted to take their name off the list as a potential port because it was of course a war vessel and they didn't want to be connected to support for wars.
I notice some of you are either from San Francisco or that area, can any of you verify or expand on this story? |
