Privatization of the Social Security program.

Are you for or against. Why or why not.

I'm actually for a hybrid privatization of some kind. If your young enough to benefit from putting your SS money in some kind of investment vehicle that would earn at least 6 or 7 percent over the next 30 - 40 years then why not. It is far better then the 2 percent or less return on your money from SS.

The CATO institute says:
Quote:
We know that young workers can expect a return on their Social Security taxes of 1.5 percent or less.
To fix the Social Security System we either raise taxes, cut benefits, or privately invest.

I lost my sister in 2006 who at 48 years old had paid into the SS system since her first job when she was 19. Her 20 year old son was no longer a dependant. Where did all that money go?

This is Social Security's biggest problem: workers have no ownership of or control over their money.

Which is what we have. What makes it hybrid is that it is voluntarily hybrid. SS is the only form disability ins. I have. SS alone is horrible as a retirement investment, but it is also a form of disability insurance. I also have a SEP, which together with SS, I should have an adequate retirement.

fixes nothing. We'd just be pouring more money into a bad investment, making it worse.
