I am sure there is a myraid of costs associated with the occupation that would not exist in other non combat zones.

Whatever monies the USA is paying to Iraqis or whomever will continue no matter if US troops are there or not.
Yes there are more wounded and dead by being in Iraq, but during the past 12 months there have also been 131 'non-hostile' deaths so even in non-war situations, soldiers get killed and injured. Yes there is more cost for these things but it's not the 'billion$' that we are talking about.
How many actual pieces of equipment are getting blown up today?? Not very many.
I know there are higher costs to being in Iraq, but I'll guess at 10% higher costs....not billion$. All the billion$ are being spent on Iraq...not on our troops...and this will continue for some time.
Again I say if anyone believes that withdrawing troops from Iraq is going to magically provide $10 billion per month to spend on other things, I'm just saying this is probably not going to happen. And like I said, if Obama and McCain get their wishes and increase the military by 100,000 troops, this will take any savings from Iraq plus billion$ more...
