2) The Tet Offensive made the brutality of the war very visible to Americans. The US Air Force had been bombing South Vietnamese villages for years; during Tet the Air Force was bombing South Vietnamese cities. The ARVN had been killing prisoners for years; during Tet the American television viewing public actually got to watch a prisoner, with his hands bound behind his back, being shot through the head by a South Vietnamese general. The Communists also committed atrocities, of course; the Communists appear to have killed several thousand civilians in the city of Hue during the period they held parts of that city. That, however, did not happen within sight of American television cameras.

I would also direct you to operations "Sunrise" and "Menu", but, oh right, we never bombed Laos or Cambodia either did we? I hope they are treating your carpal tunnel at Walter Reed there, Mr. Mitty. This is one of the biggest reasons you will stay on ignore...you dishonor those who are paying for freedom with their lives, and I'm done with you.

Does DOD pay benefits for combat carpal tunnel, from multiple tours of duty completed on one's x-box?

This is a humanitarian crisis WE created, and the US is obliged to at least try to sort it out. That said, I wonder how many chickenhawks here would volunteer to take his place?
Thank you for your response, I had logged off by the time I got a response, but I appreciate your answer. What you brother said was more toward what I had come to believe to be true. To answer your question: I don't think many people, knowing all we know about the validity of our presence in Iraq, would volunteer to take anyones place, what would be the motivation. That being said, I have nothing but respect for those serving and doing what they can to improve an impossible situation, and I hope your brother and everyone else serving overseas come back in one piece and in high spirits.

You are most welcome Dan, Jeffinco, and POHP. Thank you all for your respect and good vibes. At this point, I guess it's better that we don't have so much coverage from the war, because like Viet-Nam we would all be glued to our TV sets, hoping we didn't see my brother coming home in a bag. He's career military, a "lifer" in the Scout vernacular, and just wants what's right. He is the hero in my eyes, he dosen't believe in the misson, or the president, or this lame ass congress. Know what he believes in? His troopers...and he is doing his best to send Joe Q Public's kids home in one piece. IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF WHEN WANNA BE LOSERS WANT THE RESPECT HE HAS EARNED. So Dan, just remember this little escapade the next time some pro-war hawk tries to float some bullshit like this on you. 2 minutes on wiki shot Mr. Mitty's story all to pieces, and showed him for the liar he is. In the case of the parents tho, I think alot of them NEED to believe. I mean think about it, if it were your kids out there, you would want them to at least have a righteous cause wouldn't you? Whatever small comfort that may be, when they hand you a flag in box with "The respect and admiration of a greatful nation"...

edit...I notice Mr. Mitty hasn't tried to disprove any points I made...

I realize you hate US military personnel. Again I ask you which South Vietnam city did we bomb?

Hue was listed above already..................

It is hard to believe you don't know this...................

Battle for Hue
Soldiers at Hue City The Battle for Hue rages for 26 days as U.S. and South Vietnamese forces try to recapture the site seized by the Communists during the Tet Offensive. Previously, a religious retreat in the middle of a war zone, Hue is nearly leveled in a battle that leaves nearly all of its population homeless. Following the U.S. and A.R.V.N. victory, mass graves containing the bodies of thousands of people who had been executed during the Communist occupation are discovered.
