Soldier re-enlists hours after IED injury

A US soldier re-enlisted in the Army just hous after being seriously wounded in an improvised explosive attack near Zaganiyah, Iraq, 13 Nov 2007.

Spc. Christopher Hoyt, an infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division from Fort Lewis, WA, suffered severe laceratin to his legs and torso when an IED went off nea him while conducting a dismounted patrol. Two of his fellow soldiers were killed in the attack.

Hoyt was rushed to the emergency room at Logistical Support Area Anaconda, where he decided to re-enlist for four more years in the Army.

"He said he wasn't finished," said Hoyt's battalion commander Lt. Col. Mark Landes, who re-enlisted the soldier. "He said, 'I still have a job to do'."

"It takes a person of very strong character to go through an incident where another soldier five feet away was killed and he was severely wounded and still say 'I believe in what we are doing and I want to stay on the team. I want to support the United States Army and my country.'

"Spc. Hoyt is the epitome of what a soldier should be," Troxell continued. "He is a model for what all men and women should be, and that is very patriotic and very selfless."

There were accidents where South Vietnamese were killed. There were very few incidents where we actually had some emotionally weak individual lose it and intentionally kill south Vietnamese. Anyone that says differently is a coward and liar. That does include Kerry.

It proves that the over riding concern for those soldiers in Iraq are the other soldiers in Iraq. Their "mission" is to get their buddies home alive. After that thier motives are their own. It is a shame that such loyalty is so shamelessly exploited by this administration.

I copied the article out of "Military" which is a magazine I have recieved for years. It is not a magazine you would be interested in as it is written for the most part by ex-military personnel.

Military
P.O. Box 189490
Sacramento, CA 95818-9490

This thread is my attempt to recognize and honor our military in Iraq. There are many brave men that have accomplished so much. I for one appreciate them very much.

I for one do to........... But I am no longer willing to close my eyes to the truth or reality of war........ I served my country best I could...... If I knew then what I know now I would not have done so.

We all do things often times based on what we think..... Not what we know..........

Like the Howard Zinn example:................. It was not till later did he realize & question what he & others had done........... Not everyone can do this nor can everyone except this..........

I understand that & I hope that you can understand that my intentions as well as those of many others are not to condemn or offend but rather to expose what "they" would rather we not.........

Why is it that each time I tell of a heroic action one of the many liberals on the board is negative about something to do with military service? The disrespect of the liberals on this board does not diminish the brave actions of our military people.

Not sure if that comment "liberal" was directed @ me or not so I will let those that consider themselves "liberals" answer to it........

I believe that here as anywhere ideas set forth or responses in support of them will liken a response.... Often times an opposite one..

IN this realm of ideas we tend to focus on our differences, our point etc...... As opposed to those things that we may share or agree upon....

It is my hope that we can find other ways to end disagreements/conflicts & war other than supporting it.....

My heart truly goes out to those that serve.........

When entering the military one must surrender many rights of citizenship much like a medieval servant...... You become the property of the state.......... You can not question & you have no right to know........

Certainly this is how it must be...... For if ordinary men one day question the meaning or purpose who would be left to lead into battle???

my 2 cents..........
