Interesting the way even a thread about our military in Iraq doesn't exactly work out the way it was initially intended. Much like the actual excursion into Iraq, it's overgrown the original plan. And now, here it is, like a bad case of herpes, reminding us over and over, what a string of bad decisions can do.
It evolves from a soap-box rant against the people here who are against the war in Iraq, into a military obituary thread. The bottom line prevails. And it ultimately begs the question, what are we gaining by the risk and sacrifices being given by our kids day in and day out? ...Are we really being conservative when it comes to the commitment of one of our most prescious recources, our military? I would be so bold as to answer,...Hell, no. ...and certain folks are conspicuously absent from this dialogue anymore. things that make you go... hmmmm. Gawd, I love irony. I really am a big fan. Yes, come and HONOR our brave,.....oh yeah, and many of them,....well....DEAD soldiers. But whatever you do, dont taint the memory of those who have died, by bringing the live ones home. (not till the oil deal, anyway) Curldes my creme, man.

Considering the fact that some erzatz "marine" started it... Seems a fitting memorial for the war the erzatz leader started. I just want to see my brother come home, the losers who believe in this war are the ones that should be fighting it. Maybe, if he borrowed Limbaugh's guts, O'riley's bravado, and Coulter's balls (swiped that from BM) he might become the whole man he aspires to be, with his very own oxy-contin infused blubber (I mean body) armor...

I appreciate you listing the brave men that are dying in Iraq. I feel you have good intentions but you should realize that they are much much more than just a statistic. Many of these men fought with courage and honor so the many cases in which you just list their name, rank, age, and unit and nothing else just takes away from their honorable service. Please in the future tell a little bit more about how they served this country that they went to fight for. Anything less is disrespectful of them and their service. I appreciate their service and everytime I meet a returning military person I thank him. It would not hurt any of us to buy a meal or a cup of coffee for them and sit down and talk to them. Honestly if you do this and let them talk without you putting your views on the table we will learn from it. It will also help the returning veteran much more than you realize. Deep down I know that is what you really want to do. It is not my intention for you to eat crow. |

Jeez, I dont recall you mentioning ANY brave kids killed in combat in this thread. Seems like maybe you should have named the thread " A Thread to honor our military who come back alive from Iraq and still believe what their commander in chief told them". The troops are talking to us, BR. Are YOU listening? Doesnt seem so. ....because your staunch "support" of the fighting men and women is conspicuously devoid of ANY CRITICISM of the horrible strategic blunders that by now are quite well documented. Cant support the firefighter if you dont support the fire, eh BR? Standing behind the troops,....every step of they way. (just like GW) ...I'm sure the returning soldier would appreciate your cup of coffee, but I bet he would appreciate even more if you were to open your eyes and ears to the realism of what an impossible situation he and his brothers have been given. Try standing in front of them for once. The soldiers are telling us whats going on over there, but some of us just refuse to listen.

If you will refer back to several of my posts there were many that were killed in action. I do talk to them when I get a chance. I spoke to one just last week at the barber shop who had just got back from Iraq. After informing him I had been in the military and seen combat he opened up with some of the same things I had felt when I came back. The first thing out of his mouth was nobody back here has any idea what it is like over there because of the lying media. That is exactly the way I felt when I came back from Vietnam and had listened to what the media had been telling people. He said there were great accomplishments in Iraq. I took him at his word. I enjoyed our talk and thanked him for serving. He is obviously another conservative created by his experiences. |

Yep, if I were speeding down a dirt road in fallujia, with inadequate body armor and an eye on every parked vehicle I passed, I figure I'd lean conservative. :nobrainer: It's cool if his experiences in Iraq made more conservative, but the sad fact is, that the policies that put him there are anything but.
