What this shows is that many Republicans don't differentiate between--or just don't know the difference between--Iraqi insurgents and al Qaeda. In McCain's case, it may be senile dementia.

Apparently, some Americans think a person who is about to die is the best person to represent the United States. I'm sure all these 'Republican' America-lovers want our executive branch (the branch responsible for the military), to be represented by someone on their death-bed.

This just reaffirms what I already know, that McCain doesn't understand who we're fighting against. He doesn't get that Shi'ite extremists and Sunni extremists hate each others guts about as much as they both hate us.

Exactly. And if McCain doesn't understand that key concept, and have knowledge of how those differences factor into international relations, then he is clearly not qualified to be president. He said he didn't understand economics. Now it's clear he doesn't understand world history, current events, geography, or foreign affairs, either. Perhaps an easier question for the McCain supporters to answer would be this: What does John McCain understand?
