It isn't that an animal was killed and its body was used for so many things.. it's how it lived beforehand and the manner in which it was killed.

I think when cattle, are allowed to graze, allowed to nurse their young, allowed to live as natural as possible then humanely and quickly killed, I don't see harm in that.

But when they're raised in factory farms, their calves taken away to be abused and confined elsewhere fed by tubes instead of naturally nursing, barely receiving fluids to keep the urine thick.. it's sickening..and when a dairy cow is so engorged with hormones to make her overproduce milk that she cannot stand up anymore and looks like some freakish creation of mankind, It makes me wonder about what kind of evil mindset contrives these unimaginable atrocities?
And what about pigs, chickens and sheep? You should read and see what I see regarding horse slaughter too.

I haven't even gotten to the slaughterhouse atrocities yet.
Then we are in agreement, if you read my posts. Glad you brought up the horse slaughter, an industry most people do not know about. Lost track, but hasn't the horse slaughter industry just been hamstrung a yearish ago?

Yes I believe so..I read about the atrocities and the desire for horse meat in other countries (not to feed the poor but to feed the rich) Here's a great site;Horse Slaughter - Mary Nash's Horse Slaughter Website

That's exactly what my son says..isn't that horrific? Why didn't Colbert call her on that?

By the way Heretic, I only eat eggs from a local farmer. He's an old man who does things the old way.

His interview is less than eight minutes, and his first purpose is comedy. Bill MAher doesn't do it because he buys into the vegetarian myth as she does.

This gets into a problem of how to produce meat, eggs and dairy on a massive scale and still be humane. It's doable, I say, but the sudden and unconditional demand that no one eat meat is wholy unrealistic and not good for the livestock themselves.

Well, for me it works, but like you say a sudden and unconditional demand is unrealistic.

I can go look real quick...okay I'm back..7grams. But who eats just one egg? I also eat mung beans, split peas, and black beans. They're very high in protein. Do you like mung beans? I can only find them at the Vietnamese store in my city. Is there anything this bean can't become?
For those who don't know:Mung bean - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, telling tens of millions of people, to say nothing of hundreds of millions or billions, to stop eating meat is unrealistic anyway. It's part of human evolution and isn't going to just go away.

I don't know if anyone is seriously saying to vegiefy people. Obviously not happening. What sucks is that the great amount of feedstock necessary to meet global needs is what sets the state for feedlots and abuses in same. The cow eating in a field, having a more-or-less normal cow-life, then being taken to market would create starvation in people as supply wouldn't meet the needs. Meat is a factory product until we come up with another doable way.
