I'm Baaaaack. I've recovered from my 7.5 low. My latest blood iron test showed I'm a 12. Woohoo! I'm officially no longer anemic.

Normal is considered 12-16.

I took my saliva test for a hormone screening today. I'll get the result back in about three weeks and then start on Bio-identical hormones. *crossing fingers and toes that it works for me*

I don't want anymore of the synthetic hormones. I agree with everyone--the synthetic hormones seem to have too many side affects and merit caution. Sleep would be soo good though (I look like a fricken' racoon).

I was amazed to learn how many women suffer severe dysfunctional bleeding and face transfusions, DNC's, and hysterectomies.

I found my current doctor because my husband talked about the subject with a business associate. I was embarrassed at first. But, it turns out this man had that experience of finding his wife in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor one night. She ended up in the hospital receiving a transfusion. He gave us her doctor. Male doctor--doesn't matter to me. I just need competence.

Screw embarrassment. Thank God. Talking is good. Now, I'm yakking happily away. So many women go through this. How many other women are still amazed to find out they're not alone or uncommon? Not being alone is reassuring. Waiting until you get there to find out the big secrets no one talked about before is discomforting. No more non-talking. Yakking. Yakking Yakking. Not taking any shit either mind you (oops-flashing).

Yo, men. Sorry,but... You just gotta get through it. It'll be easier if you pay attention. If her doctor isn't good for her....never mind ditching her, ditch him. She'll do better; you'll do better....and don't tell me you won't be worried about her. We know your full of shit. You might also keep in mind--who is gonna have to mop all that blood and gore off the bathroom floor?

About that first doctor who got blood results that put me at a 10.4 on the anemia scale. I'm so angry he never bothered to tell me--probably never looked. You cannot fire a bad doctor fast enough. I'm telling as many women as I can to stay far away from this guy. I put in a complaint with the BBB. I left a review on Yahoo. I'll be looking to lodge a complaint with the AMA shortly. Why do men get stupid enough to piss off and mistreat grouchy menopausal women? Please, where does that make any degree of intelligent sense?

A word on smoking: I read quite some time ago that smoking can accelerate menopause by as much as 10 years. Smoking ages all organs. I smoked heavily for 30 years before quitting in '99. I'm not sure the influence it has had on the menopause--I'm sure it didn't help. Not smoking is a very good thing. Quitting smoking is the next best thing.

I love not smoking.

Not smoking is number one on that list of things I would not do again had I the chance to do it again.

Thanks guys. I'm really glad I started this thread. It's great hearing from everybody, the more the better. When I get the bio-identicals I'll be sure to post.

Younger women in their late thirties and forties can have peri-menopause where they find they have shorter periods..5 days instead of seven. Less of a flow each month, etc. When I was 48, I began having 3 day periods and I loved that!
Then came the hot flashes which are different for everyone. At night I'd be so overheated I'd perspire, toss and turn, then the next morning, I'd be cold.

I didn't have the bad mood swings (trust me PMS is ten times worse...I could have killed someone)

But, I did feel hungry more for salty and sweet foods. I bought some oil of primrose in capsule form and it took me all the way through with shiny hair, strong nails, and hot flashes less often. By the time I was 50, it had been 6 months since my last period, and by 51, it had been a year. I am 56 now and haven't had to worry since, but my friend who is one month older than me is still having regular periods. She's not even begun her menopause yet.

It's not something she can help without a little help, she'll cry alot..over commercials on tv even! So maybe if you watch this thread, she'll have her armor all ready with the tips we'll provide..that way you both can remain happy and calm, okay?

Good luck with the hot flashes.
I'm confused Santa. Is the device the pic in the bottom left hand corner? How does it work?

I've always had short periods - only about 3 days or so - maybe I had 4 or 5 days when I was teenager but for the last 10 tens years or so 3 days (and that's in my 20s). I thought it was because I was on the pill.

Being on the pill does cause shorter periods. So because yours remains the same, 3 days, sounds like you're doing fine. If you're missing periods or having shorter days or having really heavy ones, though, it could be peri-menopause.

You know you've gotten used to Geritol Tonic when you can chug your alloted amount without scrunching your face.

Menopausal driving hint for the day:

Before flipping over from heat to air conditioning at 68 degrees, turn off heated seat.

Hey, don't knock hysterectomies! At freaking 50 I went doctor ro doctor until I found one that would give me one. (The big female C runs rampant in my family, and I grew polyps like kudzu.)

It was the best move I ever made. Omg, I had a total, and I don't miss *any* of it!
