Steam or humidity is good. So is a good hot bath. I guess you can't take theraflu....too bad it works wonders for me.
Here are some things to remember....drink plenty of fluids...force it if you have to. DO NOT DRINK MILK OR ANY DAIRY PRODUCT! It increases mucus. Get it out of you! Continue to hack it up and spit it out. Blow your noise and get rid of the tissues afterwards. Rid the body off the stuff it uses to flush out the virus. The old addage "Feed a cold and Starve a feever" is correct. If you have a tempeture eating can fuel the fever. You do need to keep up your strength so the chicken soup is a good idea and perfect for maintaining yourself while sick. Just don't over do it. Your stomach will not like too much. Sleep..and lot's of it. Your body has many different ways to overcome illness...sleeping allows them to do their work and sleep good sleep is needed any way. Sometimes when I have the flu and I just can't handle it....I have noticed when I get nauseous...allow yourself to.....barf. Yes let it happen. It is a good thing. It doesn't feel good...but trust me, it helps. |

Teri, never take the flu shot! It's for last years flu for one and the preservative in it compromises your endocrine system. That's why you probably got sick. That's one thing they don't tell you about vaccincations, the preservative in them can be harmful.

Well, what an idiot. I'm drinking a glass of milk to settle my stomach. Great. It's the first glass today though.
GM, I didn't know that. As soon as they stopped using live cultures in flu shots, I felt better about them. I've gotten them for probably 10 yrs., ever since that year that killer flu was going around, and I was sick for two weeks. As sick as I've ever been, man that was horrible. So, since then I get the shot, and haven't had the flu till now. I'm saying this is the flu. I mean, I don't know of course, but it has all the symptoms. I think I'll hit the bed for some of the prescribed sleep, if I can. Night all and thanks for all the good advice. |

Sometimes these hellish things are over in 24 hours.
Motirn can help you ride out the pain. More baths keep the shivers from taking away precious calories that you'll need to heal. Chicken soup is one of the best things around. Decongestants just dehydrate you further so never mind about them. Most of the time you are just dried anyway so the soup = A +. Your body requires 4000 EXTRA calories in one day to boost the immune system enough to fight off germs so the soup = A+. Sherbert AND a hot bath is good, herbal tea, gargle with salt water and rinse nose with DILUTED salt water. eat rest drink eat rest drink eat rest drink ( and pee a LOT! ) |

I have one home remedy that I use towards the end of the flu when I am still queezzy and nausious. The McDonalds remedy. One big Mac Meal with soda. Eat the whole thing and stay near the bathroom. I always toss my cookies within 30 minutes. Then feel almost normal afterwards. I think that it both gives me strength from needed calories and then cleanses my stomach getting out the last of the muccus and icky stuff that is trying to exit anyway. I don't advise it really....just something I like because when I am just getting over the flu it helps me rush things along....but it is not very pleasant and can make you more nausious and then....back fire.....if you know what I mean.
