Some people think drug damage is permanent, but I don't think this is true. Drug-stuff is a growth in the brain like anything else. You can kill it or de-activate it.
As far as I can tell, only physical intrusions cause permanent damage (like putting a bullet in your brain). |

I've done a lot of work in both gardens and brain-science, so I can clearly see the parallels. If you aren't familiar with gardening, and growing plant-life, basically, it is nearly impossible to permanently ruin a garden. You can screw up the soil, or grow a bunch of plants you don't want, or grow them too close to each other, or grow too many of them, or allow weeds to grow, but all of these things can be fixed with time and proper care. Of course, if you stick a big piece of metal in the soil, where the metal is embedded you won't be able to do much.

about a year ago (maybe more) an inmate at Jackson Prison in Michigan died of dehydration. he was mentally unhinged and their response was to tie him down and not give him food and water. the way inmates are treated is a scandal, but society says they are guilty so why not treat them like we treat enemy combatants.

So far they can't when it comes to brain damage from dehydration. If that were actually true we wouldn't have so many people who are like him or worse. The police and guards need to be put in the very cell this poor guy was in. Only they need to get a much longer sentence, life in my opinion. I feel the same thing about prosecutors who hide evidence. They get the very penalty they are going after for the person they hid the evidence from not to mention the court. So much injustise in this country. Why can't they make laws that actually work for the people? Or at least give us the illusion it's working. The lack of humanity is what brings me to tears. We are not as civilized as we claim to be.

Exactly. That's one reason we have a special ward at Western State Mental Hospital where I used to work just for people like him. One thing we were never allowed to do and that was deprive patients and inmates of food or water. As a matter of fact when all patients first come in they alwats put me on their first 24 hour watch because I suffer from a disease that causes severe dehydration so I know what to look for. People, never, never deny anyone of water. Brain damage and death can occur rapidly if there is another underlying medical/mental problem.

The brain is like the body. Some things will heal automatically (like bruises). Other things, you need to fix (like broken limbs).
If you break your arm, you will be crippled until you get it fixed. In the brain, this type of injury gives the illusion of permanence. |
