usa most medicated by far???? Why??
I have heard various figures but none have the usa even close..
Advertising seems to be the common blame........... (the rest of the world does not allow this) Is this really a good thing for americans??? Sure it sells lots of stuff but maybe we don't need all that stuff..... ![]()

I don't really blame advertising... People need to learn to think for themselves rather then do as the shiny screen tells them.

Many older Americans remember the birth of pills.
Aspirin for headaches, the wonder drug penicillin, antibiotics.... We are a culture that believes there is a pill for everything, and I guess you could say there is. Yes...the reason we are the most medicated, is because there is big money in it. The pharma. co's are killing us with this crap that gets rushed to market, without proper testing. Those that run this country are all heavily invested in Pharma, Insurance, and of course, Oil.... I don't expect this trend of overmedicating to stop anytime soon. Unless of course, if we had a "preventive medicine" lobby. Sad, is that treatments that are much more effective than "conventional" treatments, aren't covered by insurance companies. They want to keep the money in their own community.

Alcohol can be a bitch too. As far as drugs, I personally never have gone beyond the usual dope (hash) back in my college days, that was many years ago. Whenever I feel I have some sort of infection (throat stuff or similar) I just grab me a pack of 1 gr. amoxicillin generic pills. Usually once a year or so, without visiting the doc. Without doubt, the best way to avoid pills-medication is having decent-healthy food on your daily priorities, and overall, moving your ass every day.

It's a known trait that when an illness is discussed that people can very easily think they have said illness.
This is mentioned in any Psych101 class: and Psych students are warned of this, too. I believe it is called Conditioning. Only the US and NZ allow this type of advertising. Because ppl can too easily believe they have said condition. My friend visiting from the uk last year said to me "Wtf is E.D?" ![]() Such advertising is pervasive we don't even notice it any more. A dr friend has told me that these ads have ruined the patient/dr relationship since ppl see these drugs ads and say to their drs and I want this and that drug, etc.
