My worst sports injury

Last night, playing softball in a competitive league, I'm playing first base.

Hard shot to 2nd, 2nd baseman makes the play, but throws the ball to me a bit short. I'm stretching out to make the catch, and try to beat the runner who is sprinting towards 1st....

ball skips under my glove, bounces under me perfectly and comes up from underneath to hit me SQUARE in the chones. BANG.

WOOF.

So after several minutes of wrything in agony, face down in the infield dirt, and a few little jumps and arranging....I successfully put my boys back where they belong. ....
...still had to make it through 2 outs to end the game...heavy sweating, bad gut-ache...oy.

I wasnt wearing a cup obviously, but I was wearing compression shorts (thank god).

...today I feel like I did 1000 situps yesterday.

....thing I might puck up one of those newer soft-cups (the old big plastic ones are SO hard to take.)...

...anyways...I have a few other sports injuries stories to tell, but..owee. No jumping jacks today.

...Anybody else have a "good" one?

I was always an outfielder. I don't know how you infielders dare to play w/out a cup...unless the opposing team has no lefty batters!

Blew my knee out playing basketball when I was 35, which was the beginning of the end of my sports career. I still played for another few years, but it was a compound dislocation of a finger during ice fishing that put the capper on my sports career altogether.

I recovered from the hand injury, but not before I started coaching little league instead of playing softball in 3 different competitive leagues. I loved working with kids, and took the worst team in the league to the championships 3 years in a row.

I never realized how much time I had wasted playing all that ball. I never returned...mostly because I can't afford to get injured.

We all have that need to compete, and now I just play pool in an extremely competetive nationwide league.

So far, no pool related injuries to report

Baseball is bad. I delivered a fast ball to this dude 21 years ago and left him one eye short. Still bugs me after all these years. Why he played wearing glasses atm beats me.

A hundred years ago when I was still in school, I was on the diving team. (Do you consider that a sport?) I went to the rec center one day to practice. I was turning the tension wheel to prepare the board for my specialty, a backward 1 1/2 somersault with a 1/2 twist, when the lifeguard told me to stop. I assured her I knew what I was doing, but she threatened to sit me out. My friend then did a backflip, no problem, with plenty of spring, so I decided to go for it. I was unable to finish the dive, and my head came down on the board, nearly knocking me out. It took 14 stitches to sew me up. The worst part about it was getting the shots in my head. It felt like the doctor was scraping the wound with a knife. And that put an end to my diving career.

That was awesome, Chris.

Thx GG.

...Funny how even on the field, the people who I consider my best friends seemed to be the ones LAUGHING THIER ASSES OFF while I'm whistling....(the other team was right there trying to help me..) ??

...and WTF! Why is a dude getting popped in the pills so damn inherently funny?....

..I've often thought Americas Funniest Home Videos could be "Americas funniest shots of dad gettin racked."

...feeling back to normal a few days later, pleased to report.

OW. 14 stitches. I never had the balls to get too crazy off the diving board...Imagine whacking your head on one of those concrete platforms they have? No thanks.

I did do a somersault on a trampoline when I was about 12 and split my lip wide open.

I imagine that would weigh heavy. ...But you are correct, bad eyes and baseball = either sports-lenses, or bad things.

...I love baseball so much, Ive played it (in some form) all my life, but I sure think about these things as my boy is getting bigger and more into playing ball.
