Food apartheid?

Wow! I just saw this on MSN.com
Banning fast food in poor neighborhoods. - By William Saletan - Slate Magazine
I'm surprised a relatively "liberal" city like L.A. would even consider an ordinance to ban construction of new fast food restaurants in low income areas.

Actually I get what they're trying to do, I'm just not sure it'll really get anywhere. The smart play would for city governments to give stores a property tax cut if they provide healthy and fresh foods in the low income neighborhoods their stores are located in.

I see what they're trying to do also, but OMG!
That's like banning cigarette sales to blacks only because they have a higher risk of heart disease. Intentions are good, but give me a break.
This sounds like something as foul as Jr. would try to do, take away individuals' civil liberties because he knows better what's good for them than the individual. Actually, this last statement also sounds like old school Dems, too.
This really goes against my libertarian streak. People are considered equal and what what kind of lifestyle each wants to live is totally up to the individual, as long as he does not harm another individual.

The problem with both parties is they completely skip the source of the problems and they both talk down to minorities as if they're children.

You'd expect that to change with Obama, except if he's willing to fold on the Bill of Right then what could he possibly get tough on.

Obama , nor Bush, nor McCain has anything to do with the L.A. city council and mayor trying to infringe upon the rights of low income people in L.A.
This is just an example of politicians, abeit local, trying to control the behavior of a certain segment of society.
To me, this is hideous.
L.A. has always been my second least favorite city in America because of aesthics, crowdedness, traffic, crime, and fakeness the city reaks of, and this just adds to my disdain.

No, but an ugly property of political parties is that they lead from the top down. There's a myth that local party members woud run ads in defiance of national party leadership's wishes, but in truth they have an unvoiced free hand to say in their ads what national party figures wouldn't [most of the time] attempt.
