our news sucks

We've all seen hours and hours devoted to the California fires, which are a major disaster, but what are those hours filled with?

A lot of California is on fire. A lot of people have lost and are losing their homes. A lot of people have been evactuated.

And, worth telling us, some may have been intentionally set.

Conditions at the football stadium where refugees go are better than those in the superdome during the Katrina disaster.. They seem to forget the Superdome was in the flood area, had no power, no running water, and was, itself, a victim of the hurricane.

If they would devote more time to other issues, we, the public, would understand them better, no?

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the talking head shows would take one show a week and dedicate the entire time to an in depth discussion of one topic, like immigration, health care, the economy, etc....and get past the sound bites.

Yeah, they have their latest "big story" to cover relentlessly till there's no detail that hasn't been reported on ad nauseum. It's certainly a big story, but not the ONLY one. Even CNN.com's webpage yesterday seemed to be devoted almost exclusively to this story.

I was watching BBC news last night just to find out what else is going on in the world.

That's where Cronincal and Shaman were great. They were practically the AP wire in posting the latest news.

So dump CNN, switch to MSNBC and

watch and support news outlets that are giving info.

http://therealnews.com/web/index.php

http://www.thenation.com/

http://thehill.com/

http://www.motherjones.com/

http://www.rollingstone.com/

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/

http://www.guardian.co.uk/

http://www.c-span.org/

http://cqpolitics.com/

Support your local PBS station for shows like Frontline
and Bill Moyers. Support Air America Radio.

Support the New Yorker.

The lack of network news is a boon for other outlets to make
money because the public wants news and will drop the networks
and big papers for the very thing that made them famous.

Even Vanity Fair has picked up on this opportunity pulling out
the stops for items the big guys won't touch.

Get out of the CNN rut---I did and I do not miss it.

I watch MSNBC as much as CNN, but I generally do look at CNN on line for news.

Do you think motherjones is credible? I saw a story about the Foo Fighters on that website that I found VERY disturbing (that they're gay haters), but I never found it anywhere but there (and personal blogs), and I could find no real sources or evidence to back up that story. I even emailed Foo Fighters website about it (never heard back though). I love my Dave Grohl, and I know he even campaigned for Kerry, but if he's a hater (which I find hard to believe), I'll drop their ass like that, and it would break my heart.

I stick to the politics on those sites.

That's what you should do, check out stories other places
and judge accordingly.

Being informed is a process, not a static place to rest.

And you should find out about the writers and see what their
histories are.

It's a hobby.

When CNN went ALL Fire News/All The Time I just knew Jr. would take advantage of it. Plus, when the media keeps insisting who the "frontrunner" so-called candidates are THAT's when you know the news is shit.

I'd just be tickled if they didnt mention Brittney for at least one week.
