Yeah, but in 50 years will we look back at our primative DNA knowledge and find we're still killing innocent people? Who are we to murder people as a society anyway? I guess that's a moral thing, and I realize that a lot of people don't feel the way I do. But, really, execution is too good for some of them, particularly those you've listed. I want them to suffer for a long, long time without their freedom. My only real concern about that is that too often, which is EVER, these monsters are freed and savage more people. If criminals fall into any of the catagories you've listed above, they should NEVER be freed.

Animals do far worse than any civilian criminal. Why condemn the humans? We don't even know exactly how much culpability an individual has. Primitive creatures, we still are. Small amounts of true knowledge.

I'm with you for the most part except I'd rather they die as soon as possible after the dead is done so the next self absorbed twisted fuck thinks about getting therapy instead of committing the crime. I believe in therapy, I'm a product of it. Just the same if you've crossed that line there is no coming back. I don't give a crap about what the positive media is on Michael Vick when he gets out of prison, he's still going to be a deranged POS and honestly I think crimes against animals in such a manner should quite possible be considered for the death penalty as well. It will never happen, regardless I feel as strong about that as the other crimes I listed.

Sorry to be a downer, I do have my conservative views as well as my liberal and far left ones.

You're not being a downer. It's why I started this thread, cause I wanted to discuss this.

From what I've heard, all the evidence says that the death penalty is not a deterrent. If I had to pick between a quick and painless death or spending the rest of my life in prison, I think I'd pick death. (Deeply ingrained Catholic ideology on suicide notwithstanding.)

There are so many contributing factors, many of which we might know nothing about. If we truly want to prevent future crimes, the solution isn't to scare people with threats of pain and death.
