When Obama and his wife, Michelle, a hospital executive, decided to move with their two young girls from their Hyde Park condominium, they chose a spacious three-story Georgian revival home on a tree-lined street in the Kenwood neighborhood, not far from the University of Chicago. The owner had listed the house -- nearly 100 years old, with four fireplaces and a wine cellar -- and an adjacent lot as separate parcels.

The Obamas purchased the house, which had been on the market for several months, for $300,000 below the list price. On the day they closed, Rezko's wife, Rita, closed on the 9,000-square-foot lot next door for the asking price of $625,000.
Hmm

I would recommend a lawyer adept in Nihon Kempo style Real Estate Law.
Passive styles may be adequate for primaries, but for the general election, he will have to adopt an aggressive, brutal posture. Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike will see it as a sign of strength.

Tai Chi is Real Estate for the weak. Ted Kennedy made it very clear that the torch has been passed. The Sensei has made the student the Master. Obama can't just perform a kata or two and expect to dazzle us with his style any more. Now we crave truth, substance and results.

What do facts have to do with anything? The media will bury those facts on page 20 and run a story about Obama's Muslim ties above the fold on the front page. In a week or so they'll publish a one sentence retraction also on page 20.
He better toughen that skin up. If Bill Clinton saying true things is mean he's going to be in hell.

That is what gets me. his LONG association, and only now under pressure returning the $$

Who can live with that? Your puny but oh-so-difficult life basically means fuck-all.

The human psyche balks at the futility. Rather than slip into despair, we strive for distinction. More money, more power, more attractive mates, bigger cars, smaller cars, faster cars, more cars, more money, more power, finer clothes, smoother skin, whiter teeth, more money, more power, smarter kids, bigger houses, better doctors, better drugs, more money, more power, more travel, first-class travel, higher education, more initials, more money, more power.
You got the essence of Buddhist thought here.
The "more thing" is actually "attachment" and it can be to physical things, sex, even the desire for immortality..

We need to understand that we are a small part of the One of the universe, which does not diminish us, but should give us a sanguine happiness that WE ARE A PART of the whole.

When we can let go of our mundane ambitions, and our grasping of temporal pleasures, we are on the road to Enlightenment.

We hope, we practice.

Attachment is a VERY sticky wicket...but before and beneath attachment lies Desire.

'More' is a whole OTHER ballgame...at which, I have observed, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers NEVER play at half-time.

Better/worse, not a differentiated part of, but OF of...like, mixed IN there...the seamless, changing, one, unending whole.

It SOUNDS good, doesn't it? Don't know WHY theory and reality are so stubborn about lining up.

...we can let go...we are on the road to enlightenment. I agree.

Om Mani Padme Hum

I am put in mind of a bittersweet movie entitled Mrs. Palfrey at The Claremont. Rather than move in with her patronizing daughter, a widow played by Joan Plowright moves into a modest residence hotel in London populated, predictably, by a theatrical group of Oddballs That Grow On You. As well, she forms a friendship with a young artiste who comes to her aid when she takes the old lady fall that old ladies dread. Owing to the "unseemly" age difference, she passes him off as her grandson to the hotel community, and to her daughter not at all.

The young man takes a lover...unsettling enough...and falls in love with her, to boot. The widow is oddly tormented but, owing to that tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive, she can unburden herself with no one.

I forget whether it was the new and lovely young girlfriend or a random Young & Lovely with whom the widow speaks, with a great deal of beating around the bush, whereupon Young, Lovely & Groovy spouts some Eastern-y Type Stuff that resonates with the widow. She is interested and willing and open-minded...except for the chanting, she quickly clarifies. That's sorta how I feel.
