Obama Vows to Return All Rezko Funds

Title
Obama Vows to Return All Rezko Funds

Obama Vows to Return All Rezko Funds | The Trail | washingtonpost.com
-----------------------------------------------------
Excerpt

By Matthew Mosk
Sen. Barack Obama today vowed to return all of the contributions raised with help from his embattled early supporter, Chicago developer Tony Rezko.

The commitment, made during an appearance on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," puts new pressure on the Illinois senator to determine exactly how much Rezko has raised for his various political campaigns. Recent published reports suggest that while Obama has returned some of the money, he has continued to hang on to a considerable amount.

"What we've done is we've traced any funds that we know of that we think were connected to him, and if there are other funds that were connected to him that we're not aware of, then we will certainly return them. It's in our interest to do so," Obama said.

Comment:

I don't understand why he is returning the money if there was nothing wrong with his association with the developer.

Likely he didn't know about Rezko's criminality when the donation was made and possibly didn't make the connection that Rezko had even contributed. But then again giving back money is a normal reaction for a candidate when the donor is being investigated, even if the investigation comes back with no charges filed.

Hillary should know, because she's been associated with more sleezey and slimy sorts than just about anyone else in this election- even most of the republicans.

That would be playing Angel's Advocate.

Playing Devil's Advocate, he makes this vow only pursuant to being busted...the old I'm not sorry I did it, but I'm very sorry I got caught.

NOT to imply that Obama did anything criminal. This is about the company he keeps.

The person who admitted in his book to having been educated in a madrassas and sharing illicit narcotics with people returns money from a land developer, but keeps money from Code Pink who are supporting the terrorists in Iraq. It does say a lot about the company he keeps.

True, but apt in this case. See, we're not use to dealing with a decent human being in office, so Obama came as a plesant surprise to most of the country. One of the reasons the political machines don't like him much.

Except that's the only rotten apple in the Obama barrell, and even then it appear to have been place atop it after the barrell was already closed up. If this is the worst that can be found on Obama- whch, given Hilary's tactics and dirt digging, it is, then I say we're good to go with Obama against the republicans.

What they haven't been able to find in regards to Obama, is the Quo in the "Quid Pro Quo".

Sure Rezko gave money to Obama's campaign just like he gave to several Democratic campaign including the Clintons.

Obama never gave him anything but thanks for his contributions.

Meaning no influence was bought.

He has to do everything possible to put this thing to rest, the media will not relent on their coverage of it if the fire isn't put out. Politically speaking, he must address it in every way possible. This isn't a matter of innocence or guilt here it's just one of the things the press has grabbed a hold of. If you get a chance to see the show CNN has done on "campaign killers" it will give great insight to it, no matter who the candidate.

True. The right wing will use this to smear Obama right up until voting day (assuming Obama is the candidate).

Worse than this will be the 'Rezko land deal', which on the surface looks pretty shady, but has no more criminality to it than Whitewater did for the Clintons. But that won't stop the right from attempting to swift-boat him over it.

What else would he say?

Ron Paul says the same of moneys given him by white supremacists unto Ku Klux Klan.

Politicians would have us believe that they are Bimbo Oblivious to their own finances...the lifeblood of their political careers...and I, for one, don't buy it.

Poor little mudwhistle. His life is one battle after another.

Hey Mud, know a lot about counter-intelligence?
