Katrina victims may have to repay money

Katrina victims may have to repay money

Katrina victims may have to repay money - Life - MSNBC.com
-----------------------------------------------------
Excerpt

NEW ORLEANS - Imagine that your home was reduced to mold-covered wood framing by Hurricane Katrina. Desperate for money to rebuild, you engage in a frustrating bureaucratic process, and after months of living in a government provided-trailer that gives off formaldehyde fumes you finally win a federal grant.

Then a collector announces that you have to pay back thousands of dollars.

For thousands of Katrina victims, this may be a reality.

In all honesty they won't get any break until they get an overpriced lobbyist firm to bribe their way into congress and their legislation.

Short of that they'll just have to write up everything they owned as a loss [without getting the tax deduction].

Well when you help me make any insurance affordable without forcing me to live in a cardboard box i'll gladly get my own coverage. Until then you've shit to say to me about lack of coverage.

I DO work aswipe. I don't know what silver spoon you've been sipping from but in the real world decent insurance... or any at all, is a serious enough expense that i and 47,000,000 others can't afford it and tens of millions more can't afford the kind of insurance that will actually help them when they need it most.

I am actually going down there in May for a week for some pro bono work. We are going to help get those poor people out of the FEMA death trailers. I am going to take interview, on site/ off, probably inspect sites. >,< it makes me so mad!!! I wish we could sue the pants off of FEMA for being so inefficient and craptastic! Its so funny cause when those wild fires happened people weren't lving in asbestos toxic trailers. No they used their AmEx gold card to stay at the Holiday inn.

Unfortunately that pesky municipal immunity doesn't allow us to sue the city of New Orleans for allow people to build their homes in unsafe area -.-. **shakes fist** no justice for the weak or poor in this country (or people who don't know people on the zoning board).
