I guess we can revisit this topic after the primaries are over to see what happens. Its my opinion that most 'disgruntled Republicans" will go home to roost and vote for McCain, but im also optomistic about the number of disgruntled Republicans who will be voting for Obama BECAUSE THEY LIKE HIM AND NOT because of A CLINTON-LIMBAUGH strategy.
I agree most repubs will go along......... Not all.... IMO bush2 has burned a lot of bridges & going along w/ his mistakes is certainly not going to help those wanting to vote their/that party line......

There is a large portion of even repubs tired of the war....... Not sure they can be scared up enough to go along for a hundred years.......

Have a fun weekend I gotta go watch the Kings & nuggets game....

A bigger question for me is; What do people believe are the priorities for change??

I'll bet if you ask 20 people this question you will get 21 answers!

And herein lies the real problem; not enough people seem to be capable of finding consensus on any issue and uniting together to create change.

And think about the very system in which we operate. Many of us want our government to make everything better. We want more things but don't wish to pay more taxes. Politically it's a TWO party system...the Democrats and the Republicans...opposing forces in nature! There is almost no middle ground between these two camps. As long as the nation remains divided down the middle, what can we actually expect to accomplish?

I'll suggest that when the US has a competent and respected president, and a Congress hell-bent on doing the best they can for the public and the nation, you will find less division.

The US has just experienced, at least in my opinion, the worst president, VP and secretary of state in the history of the USA. I also believe that Congress has done little to nothing in these same years. And whether it's because of the dumbing of America, the population explosion, or too much beer, too many people appear incapable of understanding issues, debating issues, and finding consensus on resolutions for those issues.

The US has definitely accomplished some great things in it's past so someone was united. But ask yourself what has the current president and this Congress accomplished in the past eight years that has positively affected a majority of Americans?? In the face of a bankrupt social security system, the 37th worst health care system, an education system which is really a drop-out factory, a crumbling infrastructure, a recession, the continued loss of manufacturing and jobs, the dependence on oil, a $9 trillion and growing debt, and global climate change scenarios lurking around the corner, one would think we might be doing something to make things better.

The nation is about at an impasse. A recession, loss of jobs, loss of savings, a credit crisis, and inflation. Unless people can figure out how to unite, how to create change, and do it soon, then I say...Hold on Nellie...

A good competent leader will go a long way..

IMO the big part of the problems we have now are a result of this getting along... No opposition to the war. Or to the spying on us. Nor to torture etc..............

Where were the men & women like Bird & the few others that stood up in opposition.???

Today Americans are too stupid, too lazy, or too busy to care about anything that does not directly affect them. Or put another way, if Americans gave a crap about these issues, then they sure have perfected their 'who cares' attitude.

Thousands of US troops needlessly killed in Iraq, tens of thousands US troops critically injured in Iraq, hundreds of thousands or millions of innocent Iraqis killed and injured and displaced, and spending $2-3 trillion on the Iraq debacle, and almost no one cares.

The real question might be; How bad must things become before a sizable portion of the American public get off their lazy asses and do something??

Well BC...Obama does not have a lock on bringing new people into the political arena. Clinton has inspired any number of people to become aware and involved in issues and politics. In a really weird sense, I'm sure McCain inspires a few people as well...
