Good....I'm all for sticking it to communist governments...my only point is that I think this particular means of protest may be counterproductive to the protest movement as a whole....of course...it's just my opinion...

Just asking.
EXACTLY.

It IS an honor to carry the torch. Politics should have NOTHING to do with athletics. This is the beauty of the Olympics. And BTW, don't get me started on the shame Marion Jones brought upon this country, she should die in jail.

Question: What sport did the people who are insistent that attacking the messenger of athletic competition play in high school? Or did you?

For fifty years the world nations sat around with their collective thumb up their asses as Tibet was invaded, its people massacred, their lands stolen, their culture and language systematically assaulted through every institution possible.

These protests revive the issue into the public consciousness.

The Olympics is just an industry... much like baseball, but not so well organized or governed mathematically. All this "bringing the world together" at the games is just the sales pitch.
This is just not true. There are many, many small countries that can only afford to send one or maybe two athletes that have achieved at least the minimum requirements to this competition.

Tell you what. When there's a Tibetan Jesse Owens kickin' the communist government sponsered athletes' ass then it'll mean something. other than that it's just a PR handjob to dupe the world into letting communist China's human rights abuses slide.
This is such a silly statement. It belittles Jesse Owens' accomplishments. This statement might have been said before J.O. by just replacing his name with another national hero from the past.

This is my point. For fifty years nobody protested.... did they have to pick on the Olympics. Jesus Fucking Christ, even Anonomous was able to organize world wide protests on the same day against Scientology.

Think about it.

Attacking the torch is shameful.

Yeah, and those same small countries also tend to lose simply because they couldn't fund big expensive sports medicine and training programs as if JPL were prepping althetes.

I say my posted suggestion is exactly in the spirit of Jesse Owens to stick it to oppressors. so long as people are going to keep making excuses for the communist Chinese government's abuse and murder of Tibetans they'll continue to do it without apology. But if the humiliation is big enough of a slap to the communist government they'll be forced to rethink their hold on someone else's country.

Letting the communist government of China host the games is shameful. The protests are the way to let people understand that fact.

Rather than deny them the revenue, force an unwelcome global spotlight onto their misdeeds?

One way to look at it, I guess, but I'm not sure that the world is in on the Committee's intentions.

Once again protesters with a legitimate beef end up looking like the bad guys. That sentiment has now gone global. GREAT.

yes...rather than denying them the revenue....Actually I think in those terms that its a win win for the Chinese people...more money for them...which can mean more money for infrastructure and such...and increased scrutiny on the acts of the government...

Despite how the communist government wants to protray it, I don't think the protesters will look like the bad guts at all. If anything this'll light a small fire under a few asses enough so that serious discussion of reform takes place over how China's government runs Tibet at the least.
