And I agree, a cougar would be more dangerous than a single coyote, but please, stop with the "NEAR A SCHOOL" bullshit. It sounds like the same BS our leader uses to get us scared of terrorist. No matter where you are in Chicago you are near a school, so this 'near a school' crap is just a tag to make it even more sensational.
Nope - not an expert, just a pet owner. I guess if the cougar mauled a child, you'ld blame the police for not "doing something".

Granted, the cougar being shot was a tragedy. I prefer to think that the officer involved was trying to make sure a greater tragedy didn't occur.

You'd guess wrong. I don't blame people for things that are beyond their control. I don't expect cops to be Superman.

And it's obvious you didn't see the video of the 'hunt'. Cops were everywhere, chasing the cat down the ally, in the end once they had it cornered there were no less than three cops blasting away at the same time.

Typical great white hunters, then they can talk about how much danger they overcame.

In your first paragraph, you say you don't expect them to be superman. In your third paragraph, you complain that three cops shot the animal. You can't have it both ways.

Have you ever seen a wounded animal fight? Did you expect ONE cop to walk up and deliver a "coup de grace" to the animal's temple? They did the right thing. They killed it as quickly as possible.

If they have a story to tell, they've earned it. I doubt anyone will be pinning medals on them, though.

The two have nothing to do with each other.
The first was that I wouldn't blame them for something beyond their control.
The second was for blasting away at an animal that had been running from them, like a bunch of 12 yr olds with bb guns.

Not the same, and if you can't tell that I have my doubts that you're worth continuing to converse with. I don't like having to explain the simple stuff.

I'm a common sense type, and I've been trying to do the big picture thingy here. I've been allowing for circumstances, giving the benefit of the doubt by not trying to arm-chair QB this thing, hindsighting the police and all.

But all day, after releasing 'walking home' elementary children kinda flies in the face of 'emergency response'.

I think I'm going to flip-flop on this one and cast a much more glaring eye on the city and it's response.
