Gloucester High teens involved in pregnancy pact

Title
Gloucester High teens involved in pregnancy pact

Gloucester High teens involved in pregnancy pact - BostonHerald.com

Excerpt

A group of teen-aged girls at Gloucester High who were part of a baby boom at the North Shore school entered into a pregnancy pact last year pledging to raise their babies together, Time magazine reported in a bombshell story published online today.

In total, 17 girls at Gloucester High are expecting babies and Principal Joseph Sullivan believes at least half those would-be moms planned to have babies, some even high-fiving each other when they found out they were expecting, according to the article.

The number of pregnant students this school year is four times the rate of last year.

The school started looking into the spike in teen-aged pregnancies in October when the students - all under 16 - filtered into the school health clinic for pregnancy tests, Sullivan told the national magazine.

“Some girls seemed more upset when they weren’t pregnant than when they were,” Sullivan told the magazine.

Some of the students, upon hearing the news, started talking of plans for baby showers, Sullivan told the magazine.

Sullivan said school officials found out that one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless man.

“One way to describe it is ’disturbing,”’ said School Committee chairman Greg Verga, who spoke to the Herald this morning.

Verga first read of the alleged pregnancy pact in Time, but said the idea isn’t that far fetched.

“I have heard rumors some of these pregnancies were not accidents,” he said.

The magazine reported that the pregnant girls who allegedly entered into the pregnancy pact declined to be interviewed.

The Herald could not immediately reach Sullivan.

What!!!!!

If I had a kid that did this, she'd be grounded until her baby graduated from college.

Sheesh...

I laugh but it's because I don't have any kids. What are these girls thinking?? To be the parent of one of them you would be at a total loss.

Thankfully, I don't have any kids, either.
I have no idea what these girls were thinking. Too bad none of them agreed to be interviewed. I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this.

Living a few towns over from these little morons, I can tell you everyone is scratching their heads about this one. How mind blowingly stupid do these girls have to be to do something like this? To get fucked by a homeless guy so you can get pregnant at 16?

16 year old girls do lots of things that they ultimately regret. This "pact" is not unlike many promises young kids make to "always remain friends"

Unfortunately, they'll wake up in a couple of years. Makin babies seems like a cool thing to do now. I can't wait for the terrible two's.

They probably would've been smarter to make a pact to get matching tatoos. That would have been stupid enough.

"Daddy doesn't love me" blues... The parents will be getting their come-uppance when they have a 22 and 6 six year old screaming brat who have never understood the word responsibility...

But...but...don't all teenage girls go through that at some point? I thought stealing my dads stash and scratching his records was imaginitive. How times have changed.

Indeed, I have to agree with Serum on the tattoo deal. But those girls will get a taste of reality from the midnight feedings, the nasty diapers, small things jammed into noses & ears and teething! The next thing I would do is have them all tested for stds, no telling what that homeless guy gave them...

Makes you wonder if the 24 yo homeless guy is being looked for. Why can't these kids today just sleep with a favorite teacher.
