while i would have tendency to agree with you guys, my issue lies in the fact that he's been where he's been for 20 years and through previous presidents who didn't pull the switch...bush is notorious for killing people in texas, so leave it up to him to do something that hasn't been done in this country since 1957...

there was no pressing urgency to kill this guy now...

At least one rare distinction in this case of condeming a soldier to death.... it seems this particular troop deserves it.

A jury and judge have been WRONG on at least 12 occassions.

And, like in the case of the 12 or so innocent men we've already put the death, say 'oopsies' if the verdict was in error?

That's a flaw in the system, not the penalty.

i believe the death penalty should be like abortion...

very very rare, but legal.

that said, you have manson, guilty beyond any reasonable doubt, and arguably one of the craziest murdering mother fuckers this country ever produced, still drawing breath at our expense...

perhaps, these guys should just be put in with the standard prison population - and leave it up to their fellow inmates to decide whether they survive or not - like dahmer.

Manson didn't kill anyone. To say he orchestrated it is true, but then we're giving death penalties willy-nilly if we do that.

Found guilty by their peers and sentenced by a judge. Good system, but chaos and murphy's law bites ya.

I can't fathom how people think like you do, honestly. I also realize I may be in the minority in the US, but then again I'm in the majority of all the rest of civilized humans.

What's wrong with jail? Its unpleasant and serves the purpose of removing the offender from the population. It also gives you the opportunity to change the verdict if some new evidence clears the suspect.

People who've been executed are mentally ill, naturally or chemically.

Eye witnesses have been wrong. Circumstances have been wrong. Evidence has been overlooked or improved upon. Many prisoners have been exonerated after the fact. 12 or more dead innocent citizens.

The death penalty is a sickness of the American society.

I would love to see the system refined but for the most part it does work. If you weigh out the difference between those who are truly guilty as opposed to those wrongfully convicted I am sure there is no comparison. However, with advances in science and DNA testing I think it's becoming much more accurate.

To me it's hard to justify paying the exorbitantly high cost of imprisoning somebody who has murdered other people. Why should we pay for that? If someone in my family was every murdered I sure as hell would say fuck you to anyone asking me to pay for their incarceration out of my own pocket. And like it or not, that's exactly what they are doing.
