I don't know about that. I don't really know what that means exactly either in relation to what I was saying. Anyhow there is something to be said for not having a 24 hour news network. Do we really need 24/7 coverage? The information age is wonderful but to there has got be a balance. The problem is that when you run out of "decent, informative, and breaking coverage," you end up with ol' Bigfoot. What else are they supposed to run? But by running him they essentially are making are mockery of the institution of journalism. There are too many opinions, commentators, human interest stories, and plain old tabloid garbage on our supposed "news networks."

Building on what i was saying before, the impoverish state of public discourse is part of the reason why we see adequate political analysis going down "hole." This site is wonderful, people expressing their opinions as informed citizens. We may not agree, (and that is a good thing) but we are having the discussion. Steered by our own moral-political conceptional systems, I think Eric should be praised for allowing this site to go beyond the arbitrary, typical partisan format (we do sink down there at times but that is okay I think). People here give me hope that we can go beyond "liberal" and "conservative" that we can look past the traditional matrix of family-based morality. That we can be issue oriented and literal, and engage in the long lost forms of debate. Even though people think what were doing is "mental masturbation" at least the ol' noggen is getting some exercise right?

If more people took part in communities like this, it is my belief--albeit a naive one at best--that the political landscape would change dramatically in this country. Open discussion of morality, values systems of both liberal and conservative is very important. It cannot be left to the religious right to decide (that's your queue Democrats). So getting back to the original issue. Until there is a honest discourse in the media, that admits favoring one world view over another (because in my opinion there is no such thing as "neutrality" or neutral reporting for that matter, it is always operatively charged with metaphor and terminology that both liberals and conservatives have created) it will continue to pander to stupidity and rely on commentators to make our opinions for us rather than letting us decide what we want to think.
