Yeti!!!
Dear God, anyone been following this? I can't wait to see the outcome of the press release. This could be the real deal. Either an entirely new species or a relict population of something older. Bigfoot! Who'd of thought?

Fox and MSNBC are covering it too. If it's real, cool. But if it turns out to be fake, or un-verifiable, then I think it really "cheapens" the major news sources. Like you said, National Enquirer type stuff. Hopefully it's real though. I've ALWAYS wanted to believe in Bigfoot.

I was watching a show on what I think was the history channel...anyways these guys`were looking for bigfoot in Canada somewhere, something with a huge footprint stepped on a board of nails leaving behind hair and blood. The blood was sent for DNA testing(the show was there at the lab for the testing) and it came back as an unknown primate....which kinda weirded me out...
But yeah, the face doesn't look all that authentic..... Why would people put their career's and reputations on the line for something that could easily by proven to be fake?(autopsy) |

Bigfoot body 'discovery' dismissed as a hoax
Two American Bigfoot hunters who claim to have found a body of one of the legendary creatures have been dismissed as hoaxers by sceptics. By Matthew Moore Last Updated: 11:46AM BST 15 Aug 2008 Comments 5 | Comment on this article Photo of the Bigfoot 'corpse' released by the two trackers Rick Dyer and Matthew Whitton say they will produce DNA evidence and a video of their find at a press conference in California today. They have already released a photo showing what they claim is the dead Bigfoot in a freezer, with what appear to be intestines protruding from its stomach. Critics insist the photo is actually just a gorilla costume, or even a rug. Mr Dyer and Mr Whitton claim to have discovered the body in woods at an unspecified location in northern Georgia, and to have spotted three living Bigfoots as they dragged the carcass into their car. “It was very frightening at first, and it got even more frightening when you saw the others, Mr Dyer said. “There’s a lot of comment being made that it looks fake, or it looks like a suit,” he added. “But these people wasn’t there when I was sweating, pulling this thing through the woods.” The creature, which is being stored at a secret location, is 7ft 7in tall, weighs more than 35 st and is part "human and part ape-like", they claim. Mr Dyer, 31, runs a business that offers Bigfoot tours of Georgia, raising suspicions that the “discovery” is just a marketing stunt. Tom Biscardi, a Bigfoot “expert” who has inspected the carcass and claims that it is genuine, also has a financial interest in the myth, selling Bigfoot merchandise from his website Searching For Bigfoot - Special Announcement. He has previously endorsed other Bigfoot finds that turned out to be false. Jefrey Meldrum, another Bigfoot researcher, has poured cold water on the claims. "I’ve had interactions with Tom Biscardi in the past, and based on that history, I would say that anything he is involved in is suspect," Mr Meldrum told Scientific American. "The fact that the two Georgian men turned to him and not anyone with scientific credentials is very questionable." Mr Dyer and Mr Whitton posted a video on YouTube in which a man identified as scientist Dr Paul van Buren endorses their Bigfoot discovery. He has since been revealed as Mr Whitton's brother, who has no scientific qualifications. Bigfoot body 'discovery' dismissed as a hoax - Telegraph |

I often wonder why the actual Earth itself isn't fascinating enough for us? Considering the massive voids of nothingness and benign of life universe we know about, we're sitting on the only known (by us) extensive beyond belief Menagerie.
Is it our need to discover, but there's nothing left? Is a need to believe in something that doesn't actually exist? I'm not immune to it, I love to suspend belief for a few minutes and love any phantasmagorical stories or fiction. What is a shame is, there are real animals that even if everything were true about these myths that are much more interesting, complex, and unknown. I recently rewatched (making my wife watch it for the first time), Nova's special on the CuddleFish. Simply an amazing creature, who's existance is just an outstanding example of the place we live in. This animal makes BigFoot look like a joke, it's practically alien in it's adaptations for survival. |
