Paul is not interested in third party run

DURHAM, N.H. -- Texas Congressman Ron Paul said he is "not interested" in a third party run for president if he is unable to win the Republican presidential nomination next year.

"I have no intention of doing that," Paul told local reporters. "This country is not very democratic and only allows for two parties."

In 1988, Paul ran for president as the nominee for the Libertarian Party. He said that experience showed him a third party run would be futile.

On Friday afternoon Paul spoke to 350 students at the University of New Hampshire, one of the largest audiences a presidential candidates has received on this campus.

Rebecca Romanoski, a UNH student who grew up in Newton, N.H., said she came to see Paul because she heard he was a bit of a "radical". But she was turned off after hearing Paul say he would do very little to address global warming.

In the question and answer period Paul encouraged students to be "contrarians" about global warming and said the federal government really didn't have a role to address the problem anyway.

An important reminder:

Don't forget to change your voter registration to Republican ASAP so you can vote for Ron Paul in the primaries!!!!!

Many states such as New York and California have closed presidential primaries that only Republicans can vote in and there are deadlines to change your registration to be eligible to vote in the primaries.

Probably the real reason is that he ran several times as a Libertarian and independent, losing each time. Then since he probably stood a better chance of being elected in Texas as a Republican he became one.

Why? Open primaries allow "cheating," no?

Wouldn't that be like having the Green Bay Packer's GM choose players for the Giants.

Party politics is bullshit. All primaries should be open if we are to claim we embrace democratic principles. Why shouldn't Independents have a voice?

I won't really argue that.

However, we have parties whether we like it or not. If the democrats and republicans are going to have primaries, why should they be allowed in each others?

Why does anyone have to "register" as anything, Democrat or Republican - their choice regardless, as long as they do not vote for both in the primaries ?

Actually when are the primaries ? Been voting for years and have yet to know when these occur ?
