Clinton in planted questions row

Clinton in planted questions row

Quote:
The US presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has criticised her aides after she was accused of taking pre-arranged questions at a rally in Iowa.
The allegation was made by a student, who said a Clinton campaign aide asked her to pose a specific question.

Mrs Clinton said she had been unaware her aides had planted the question.

Question-planting has been used in US campaigns, but is usually avoided because it can become an embarrassment for candidates when revealed.

A student at Grinnell University, Muriel Gallo-Chasanoff, told her campus newspaper she had been asked by a Clinton aide to pose a question about global warming at a rally in Newton, Iowa.

"It was news to me," Mrs Clinton said, "and neither I nor my campaign approve of that, and it will certainly not be tolerated."

Planting questions is not illicit during US elections, but the allegations could affect Mrs Clinton's campaign. She has already been accused of avoiding tough questions, analysts say.

Mrs Clinton is locked in a tough battle in the Iowa caucus with her Democratic opponents Barrack Obama and John Edwards, and the revelations could affect her standing in opinion polls.

She enjoys a commanding lead nationwide, but an upset in Iowa, which kick-starts the primary season on 3 January, could give fresh impetus to her main rivals.

Here, we have several things we may believe.

First, we can believe that Senator Clinton was aware of and authorized this.

Second, we can believe the staff did it on their own.

Third, we can believe the individual claim is false.

It would certainly be easy enough for a supporter of another candidate to simply say this happened, would it not?

This is what I call "premature reporting". Unless the alegation is supported by investigation, we are all better off if it is not reported.

My opinion.

I tend to be suspicious of the press at the best of times when it comes to stories of this nature. That said, it was in the BBC and at least worthy of posting IMHO.

I remember Nixon's "dirty tricks"

He had hired people to disrupt the republican convention. The disruption was reported, and, of course, blamed on the democrats.

It took a while for the truth to come out, and by then the damage had been done.

Moral here is that few things in politics are what they appear to be.

You have to remember 7 years ago when people believed Matt Drudge's account of conversations the Clintons had in bed. Nobody asked how he had come by that knowledge. They just accepted it as true. Also a whore named Paula Jones who had given more blow jobs than the north wind suing a sitting president for asking her to do the same for him. Without any proof other than her (LOL) word.
They will try anything because the public at large is gullible and stupid. Who knows what they might believe?

I just heard this "planted" question thing on CNN.

A planted question about global warming?

Another one a year ago on Iraq?

That from an Obama supporter.

It's interesting, the language Blitzer used:

"It has been reported that........"

Isn't it strange, when you look at the big picture:

If they change the subject of a question asked, they are criticized.

If they answer the questions asked, they are criticized for not discussing other issues.

Kind of like a lose/lose/lose proposition, isn't it.
