Yes, a .44 indeed. When the .357 Magnum first came out, many people started carrying them in bear country. They noticed a little problem.......the "mighty" .357 was not able to penetrate a grizzly's skull. This is very problematic when you are about to become breakfast.

Worse, bears perform first aid on themselves using mud packs and pulling their own fur out to stuff in the holes.

Oh yeah, I had one wake me up with it's breathing about 3 feet from my head. That will get the adrenaline going!
