Those plants up north...are they tropical hibiscus or those hibiscus I call "Mallo"? It gets confusing at times, lol.

We've been calling them hibiscus since the 60's, and the flowers are virtually identical to the versions I now see in nurseries, that require indoor climate in the winter. I'll post some pics when they're flowering. Meanwhile, found this old apple tree, in the middle of a wooded area. Windy day, but finally got a calm stretch. ![]()

Click on both of these, and see the difference. Use the flower in the bottom photo in the second post.

Bonsai!!
About 8 years ago, I started this new hobby. I've got a Golden Cypress in my landscaping that needs to be shaped each year. Rather than discard the trimmings, I decided to try to root them... To my surprise, they root rather easily. This one is 8 years old. I believe this one was from a lower limb that was laying on the ground. It "layered" (rooted) itself, and all I did was disconnect it from the main trunk, and pot it. ![]() The nature of Bonsai, is that they are all a work in progress. I've finally gotten some direction with this one...I believe the correct term for this style is "semi cascade". After about 4 years, it had root that developed enough to expose. I've attempted to make it look like it has been growing over the rock for its entire life. ![]() ![]() This one is about 4 years old, and has finally taken a shape that I can work with. The rock really help to create a little balance. Bonsai are really easy to kill...just bring them in the house in the winter. This pot came from a murdered bonsai that my buddy wanted me to attempt to rehab....no deal. I recently repotted this one, and evidently I didn't clean the side of the dish before taking this pic. ![]() Not sure who the little dude is, but he's a fellow fisherman. I guess I'll let him hang out for a while. edit...ooops...stretched the page again...sorry
