what to do with *all* that snow!
as many of you know, we've had a ton of snow over the last few weeks (and that's an understatement
)...every year around this time one of the malls near my work uses its parking lot to host an annual snow carving competition and the some of the sculptures are simply stunning!the competition was actually last weekend and i meant to take my camera then, but i forgot...during the week i don't usually leave work until after dark, so it would have been pointless but today as i was on my way out the door, i grabbed it so i could stop on my way home.... we had a little bit of rain this week, so some of them have wilted a bit but overall they still look pretty phenomenal...i took multiples of a several of them, some from slightly different angles and by the time i had made my way through the display, my fingers were almost frozen so some of them may be a little shaky...and yay for the sun finally coming out today, though tonight we're supposed to get freezing rain and 12-15 more inches of snow on the 'morrow...anyway, enjoy... the first one is a group of 4 penguins, this was further along in the exhibit and i was already pretty frozen myself, so i didn't get the two along the backside: ![]() this one is of a father helping his young son build a rocketship: ![]() an asian couple: ![]() he's got the whole world on his shoulders: ![]() the next two are of a bear family with a sealion at their feet ![]() ![]() this is of an eagle soaring over the world...it's not in the rest of the display but rather on the corner out in front of the mall...i snapped this as i was turning the corner...surprised it came out at all considering i was looking at the road and just put the camera out the window and pressed the button: ![]() a tribute for the soldiers, they are surrounded by peace lillies, there is a face on all three sides and the caption below reads "thank you": ![]() there's more to follow...

this is of a shark jumping out of the ocean with a fish in his mouth:
![]() to be truthful, i'm not sure what this is other than someone on a swing and it's very, very large...i think there were some critters in her lap, maybe something ala alice in wonderland but i didn't read the board next to it...too cold to stop for long: ![]() some mice and cheese: ![]() ![]() for our baseball fans: ![]() ![]() this one was one of my favourites...so delicate, and graceful...a mirror image of swans: ![]() ![]() ![]() there's still a few more...

the next several were my absolute favourite...it's a jellyfish, a swordfish and some coral...the coral was very intricate in detail as well as the jellyfish's tail...i am absolutely amazed at what they did here:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and finally, a wolf howling...this one won a blue ribbon (frankly, it's the only one i noticed that won anything, though i vaguely recall seeing bits of coloured ribbon swaying in the breeze as i made my way through the exhibit)...the wolf is simply gorgeous! ![]() ![]() ![]()

my pleasure...i just think it's awesome how they can turn all that snow into these sculptures...and such imagination, too...if i'm still here next year i'm going to go out while they are carving and get them in action
