We were allowing the older dogs to run free because we have no neighbors for 10 miles, and hardly no one (literally) ever comes down this road. The one exception is a Dr. that owns a couple hundred acres a couple miles down the dirt road as a hunting camp. He's only there a few weekends a year. During hunting season the older dogs aren't allowed to run free. No way.

The pups are kept in a 100'x50' fenced run that has a 10'x10' doghouse. Hubby knocked himself out on that project, and I wish you could see it! He fenced around using mostly big trees as the fence posts, and we didn't use chain link. Short version: you can't really "see" the dog run, and they can run thru what looks like cleared woods. The run has trees in it, and a kiddie pool. It's hard to describe.

And of course old Bailey stays in my bedroom. I have to walk with him outside because he's gotten senile. He wandered off once, and I freaked. The phone rang, and I ran inside to answer it. I came back and he'd taken an extended stroll. There are packs of both coyotes and CoyDogs here, and I am really afraid for my animals...they are aggressive! I thought I was gonna move here and finally allow my cats outside...wrong.

The nice thing about no fence is the deer & turkey come and go. They loves the pears, lol.
believe it or not, I actually can visualize the dog run

We no likey snakes.
Sorry! My mom was just like you, and my dad (1/2 native american) took me everywhere with him in the woods. I caught a LOT of snakes very young. Daddy taught me the way of his people, so I do well with critters and woods.

He set me up big time when I was about 6. We'd caught this huge old black snake (about 6 feet), and he let me bring it in the car. We got home, and he draped it around my shoulders and said "Now run show Mommy what you have!"

My dear, sweet, gentile Southern Lady of a mother chased me (and snake) out the door with a broom!! I learned fast about Daddy's sense of humor.

DEEEZ is very lucky! I'd never seen a Luna until we moved here. I'd LOVE to see a Hummingbird Moth. I keep hearing about them on the Hummer Forum.

I love these hummingbird moths. The type I get here in Nebraska look like this:Vine Sphinx..they sometimes have pink on their underwing.

I wish I could spot this beauty!

We get these... for years, I thought they were hummers, but it seemed odd that they had no fear of humans.

Remember when I thought I saw a ruby hummer last year? I'll bet it was a clear wing moth instead.

So...it never was a hummingbird?

The moths are MUCH slower, and more deliberate

My brother had snakes for pets. I don't like taking them out of their habitat now though - leave them free, but if they're injured or hurt, bring 'em in. I loved roaming the woods and collecting lizards, turtles, frogs, (lol, too many of those) .
