Moths & Flutterbys

Odd one, huh? I found her hugging a post on the old barn we're going to tear down. Due to bad weather here in Ga. all the critters are hunkering down.

Those "eyes" are weird. I think it's a moth? Maybe a Luna Moth...I dunno?

Yes, it does! I almost walked by it thinking that's what it was after all the wind damage we've had here. Good camo!

Luna moths are a very rare find! luna moth
Luna moths are one of the most unusual and beautiful of the North American moths known as Saturnidae. They are well known for their green-yellow colors and long tails, and although they are often seen in pictures, they are a real surprise when found in nature. Although they are common throughout the eastern U.S., their night flying habits and short life span as an adult moth, only about 1 week, combine to make them a rare find.

I took this last summer of a huge dragonfly(larger than my whole hand!) This dragonfly really blended into the morning glory vines and I didn't see it at first.

I took this last September of a Monarch. She's not caught in a web, it just looks like it, but the web is much further forward.

Wow, thanks for the info! This is the second one I've found on my property in the last two years, so hopefully conditions are right for them to reproduce here. *G*
